I have a stronger stomach for period piece movies than most people so you might want to take that into account when you read my grading. This movie had witty dialogue and warming cinematography. The movie did lag at parts and the actual story, although intriguing, does send out an odd message. The film is about a young girl who is in love but cannot be with the man she desires because she and her family are destitute. Therefore the girl becomes a whore of sorts so that she can be with him physically and it's accepted in society. For that reason along with the little nudity I would not recommend that you leave the kiddies in the room. If you like period movies like Dangerous Liaisons, then you'll like this one. Of course it isn't NEAR as good as Dangerous Liaisons, but it is still enjoyable.
