Forces of Nature
(capsule review)
Directed by: Bronwen Hughes
Starring: Sandra Bullock, Ben Affleck, Maura Tierney
Rating:
When I saw the trailer for this film, it seemed like it might be interesting. It also
seemed very similar to a movie that bombed about 10 years ago starring the soon-to-be
husband from the Steve Martin version of Father of the Bride. Of course I'm having a bad
memory day and I'm too lazy to look up the name of the movie on IMDB but take my word for
it, the story lines are about the same: Boy is separated from fiancee for short period
errand, trouble happens, boy can't make it back in time, starts to miss crucial events
like rehearsal dinners, etc...oh and did I mention he runs into an exotic woman who is
very different from his fiancee but charming in her own way, boy gets confused, boy and
exotic girl go through a completely unbelievable chain of events, boy and exotic girl get
together but later decide jointly that boy is probably better off with fiancee, boy
manages to get back just in time for wedding and at first sight of fiancee's face forgets
about feelings for exotic girl, and all they all lived contented lives. Wahoo. Formulaic
and very predictable. What saves this movie and makes it worth watching are the charming
personalities of the two stars, Ben Affleck and Sandra Bullock. It's probably a cute movie
to rent and you can still grin a few times and leave the film with a decent warm fuzzy
feeling. Not bad, not great, but still charming in it's own fun, quirky way.
