Oh my goodness gracious!!! That about sums it up. I could never have forseen how much I would enjoy this movie. I could hear the hu-bu-bub coming from a mile away. "Williams will get an Oscar!" I ignored it though and was sceptical but anxious to see it. I expected a modern Dead Poet's Society. (which wouldn't have been bad, just unoriginal) I was wrong, although the best way I can describe the movie is a combination of DPS and Swingers. It has that unimaginable insight into the male mind and male bonding without crossing that line where it becomes unbelievable. It also did an excellent job of putting Williams in a mentor type role without making him repeat the "Oh Captain, my captain!" role. The characters have more depth in the movie than I've ever seen. What an incredible performance by Matt Damon. I knew I liked him after School Ties, and he showed he had depth in Courage Under Fire, but I didn't know he was THIS good!!!! Minnie Driver, Ben Affleck and Stellan Skarsgard all do wonderful jobs as well. Why haven't you heard about their terrific performances? Matt Damon and Robin Williams overshadowed them with great roles and moving scenes and some of the best acting I've seen in years. This movie is my pick of the year. See it a.s.a.p.
