Unlike many people I know, I've never really liked cartoons. There were only a handful that I watched when I was younger and I certainly don't watch them as an adult. Not even The Simpsons. So, when it comes to animated movies I usually don't get to into them. However, I just loved this movie.

The story is much more creative than Shrek, and just as funny. I had a plastered grin on my face for atleast half of the movie. This is due mostly to the cutest character ever put on screen, a young girl nicknamed Boo. She is drawn with such an adorable face and great expressions that you can't help but melt when you look at her.

Aside from that, the animation is fantastic. The large blue character named Sully and affectionately called Kitty is covered in blue hair. The animators show how far technology has come with the natural looking movements of the hair. There are some memorable characters which leaves you begging for a sequel.

For those of you who don't already know, this movie follows two friends, who just happen to be monsters. They live in what they think is the real world. This world lives off of the energy that screams from children create. So, how do they get the screams? Why, your friendly Monsters, Inc. provides them by hiring people like Sully, a monster whose voice is provided by John Goodman, to sneak into children's closets and scare them. Only one problem, monsters are terrified of humans, especially children. So, one day a young girl follows Sully thru the portal that leads them back to the monsters world and a whole mess ensues.

When it comes to the newest Oscar category, best animated film, I really do hope that this one wins. No offense to Shrek, which I also loved, but this movie has the cutest ending to a movie that I've ever seen. Without giving anything away, let's just say that with one word I began to cry. I then turned and looked at a friend who was watching it with me, she was crying as well.

The reason this movie doesn't get the full four stars it probably deserves is because the movie is a touch slow at times. It's certainly not enough to lose the audience, but just enough to lose half a star. Other than that I have no complaints. This movie is just too adorable and for sheer creativity and witty humor, I hope it does win the Oscar. It's a movie that the whole family can enjoy.
