And I know I'll be insulting a lot of people when I say this, but Marlon Brando should retire. I didn't like him when he was younger in movies like A Streetcar Named Desire or On the Waterfront but I learned to like him in his later years from The Godfather to The Freshman. However, he's crossed over and has lost his touch again. His speech is hard to understand and he barely can express emotion. He was more distracting than anything. Robert DeNiro is good, as usual, but his character is not the best ever written. Same goes for Norton but he was given the opportunity to shine a bit brighter. Although Angela Bassett was good, her character was not needed. There were a few choices that were made that give away the ending. I wish they were left out because it would've added to the surprise and made it a little less predictable. However, although it's just like every other heist movie out there it does have two excellent leads which make this movie better than it should be. Perhaps the director, Frank Oz, should stick with comedies like In and Out and Bowfinger. He seems to stumble a bit trying to add suspense. But don't get me wrong, there are quite a lot of nail biting scenes. I just think that they could've been even more powerful if a better director had been at the helm and if the script wasn't so formulaic. This movie is decent because of the actors, so therefore I recommend renting it but don't shell out more than 5 dollars for it. |
