Not bad, not good, about in between. Ok, so I'm a sucker for romantic comedies. I really don't think I should've given this movie this high of a grade but what the hey. Anyway, this movie IS predictable and IS formulaic but it still is cute. Freddie Prinze, Jr. does a pretty good job, a step up from I Know What You Did Last Summer. It's a decently cute movie that rips off of the old story line of boy dared to date the most unpopular girl in school, making her popular and eventually falling for her. Wahoo, nothing new and exciting. There are a few cheesey moments, i.e. the hacky sack scene but they can be overlooked for the humourus touches like the father and Jeopardy scene. I thought the pizza and the "extra toppings" scene could've been scratched and was only there to see people squirm in their seat. They could've expressed the fact that Zach was going to stand up for his new girlfriend's little brother in MANY other ways without disgusting the entire audience. They just went a little too far. This is aimed at a younger audience mentality and therefore don't expect some great philosophical gems to be pouring from the actors' lips. In fact all of the lines in this movie can probably be seen in about 100 other movies. There's nothing truly original here but still the film manages to stay decently cute. All in all, it's ok.
