I was a little hesitant to see this movie and now I know why. It was obvious to me by the trailers that I had seen and what I had read about the movie that this film was going to have some huge message in it. Now, they don't come out and scream it at the audience, but it is definately there. I think that the message they try to send, love conquers all, is a good message. However, the little messages this film sent out were not good at all. The main one I noticed was it was alright to be a bitch if you had an excuse. I think this is completely wrong. The young girl in the film and Susan Sarandon are complete wenches through the whole film. The one time someone tries to chastize the young girl the focus is taken off the the girl's wrong doing when Julia Roberts' character says something not so nice. Susan Sarandon's character and her daughter in the film never really make amends, they never apologize and they don't get much better. They are a real downer to the film. However, the film as a whole was not THAT bad. The son in the film is adorable and charming. The acting is wonderful and there is some great cinematography. But still, much of the film is dark, depressing and unfulfilling. All in all I'd say it's not worth going to the movies to see. |
