News - 18 November 2000
Some sad news - Swizzle In, the horse Andrew Hoy rode into 2nd place in the
individual 3 Day Event was euthanased after a tragic accident.

an exquisite extended trot!
Walking the X-Country course with Gillian Rolton,
she is working out the strides a horse will take between
two elements of one jump. This is at the "Ginger Meggs Kennel".
Gillian is a dual Gold Medalist from Barcelona in 1992
and Atlanta 1996 with her horse Peppermint Grove who was retired after Atlanta.
You may remember in Atlanta Gillian broke her collar bone and cracked several ribs in a
fall but remounted Peppermint Grove and continued on to the horrendous water jump where
she got into more difficulty ........ but with her efforts the team still won the
gold!
Andrew Hoy and Darien Powers tackle the
"Orphans School Seat".
Andrew is now a triple Gold medalist in the Team 3 Day Event,
Barcelona 1992, Atlanta 1996 and Sydney 2000,
(twice with the above horse Darien Powers) and a few days later he
won Silver in the Individual 3 Day Event on Swizzle In.
Stuart Tinney and Jeepster clear the second
element of the second water jump.
They continue on to a clear round.

Andrew Hoy and Darien Powers are the last to
compete in the jumping round
and are not too far from riding into history and that Gold medal!
Celebration Time!!
The riders have received their Gold medals and are now on their Victory Gallop
(hum the main theme from "The Man From Snowy River")

$5 Million Stallion
The horse Baloubet Du Rouet ridden by Rodrigo
Pessoa from Brasil
is reportedly worth a staggering $5 million!!!!!
Baloubet Du Rouet was a very impresive horse to watch and Rodrigo Pessoa had steered the horse magnificantly over the 2 1/2 days up until the last round.
They were in the lead, but on a terribly windy day
the "lighthouse jump"
at the top of the above photo would be their down fall.
Baloubet Du Rouet refused the jump 3 times and was disqualified.
The crowd gasped as one each time the horse refused and were totally stunned at the
outcome.
(Basically, the combination of Pessoa and Baloubet Du Rouet were expected to win!)
Hope you enjoyed these.
