"Hoi! Hello there!"
"Ah, Ootaki! I was looking for you."
"Eh? What for?"
"I need you to pass a message to Tamiya and to hold an interview with
you."
"Ah! Hold on!"
*runs off and comes back. In armour.*
"There, now you can interview the manly me in all my glory!"
"........."
Comical, amusing and adorably kind hearted is the perpetually smiling Ootaki. The vice-chairman of the Nekomi Auto Club, Ootaki has a little more sense and a lot more brains compared Tamiya, although they are inseperable as friends and Ootaki acts almost as amusingly as Tamiya does. Sharing some of the same beliefs as Tamiya, Ootaki has his own brand of humour and romance in Ah! My Goddess.
As Tamiya's best friend, Ootaki also shares Tamiya's interests in automobiles and the two of them are working together to find the ultimate racing machine. While Ootaki may appear to pick on Keiichi often and appears slightly devious, Ootaki is really a nice guy who wants the best for everyone. While he may do some funny things, Ootaki is really quite intelligent, if not queer. Such as wearing armours or uniforms. He probably believes that because of the glory and honour the people heaped upon the men of the past who wore these things, Ootaki hopes to show his own manly prowess by wearing these. (He also wears some ridiculous rubber costumes, but I won't go into that....)
But really, Ootaki's fine just the way he is. Always prepared to help others and knowing when to take the oppourtunity to do so, Ootaki carries a veritable car repair kit on his person hidden underneath his jacket. His knowledge of automobiles is only paralleled by Tamiya and Keiichi, and even then he has the upper hand because he appears very resourceful with his..... accessories. As a head of the N.I.T M.C.C, Ootaki's in his last year at the N.I.T (I think so) and is looking for a replacement to replace him and Tamiya when they graduate. He's wise enough to know to look for the qualities such as leadership and motivation in the future leader (which he sees in Keiichi). He's also intelligent enough to create a cipher out of a calculator with Tamiya's help and coming up with ways to test Keiichi in the most interesting manners.
Wearing a perpetual smile, Ootaki may appear cheerful all the time (and he is mostly), but he also has a cunning mind. He normally uses it for the good of the Auto Club, although he's not totally oblivious to the going ons around him as well. He appears to know Keiichi well enough to understand his behaviour, at least. But sometimes, Ootaki is really simple and/or ignorant when it comes to certain things although he's a fast learner. He's also a good and loyal friend, although not as emotional as his friend, Tamiya. He also knows he can rely on friends like Keiichi to help him out, and in return he helps them out without question.
For some reason, Ootaki must have a sort of reputation for being single-mindedly obsessed with automobiles and mechanical stuff and loving them more than women, because Keiichi doesn't want to believe it when Ootaki appears to like a girl,Yamano Satoko. Maybe Ootaki really appeared that cold in the past before adopting a cheery face? Well, whatever it is, he's still a fine fellow. And a poor fellow too, he's afraid of dogs. I wonder what childhood trauma caused that....?
As a general view, Ootaki isn't really such a bad guy. Like anyone else in Ah! My Goddess, he's got his good and bad points, but he's got a lot of likeable good points and his interest in Yamano just adds to his perk. *laugh* He's really a funny guy if you take the time to look.
