Mishima Sayoko is another fairly common main character in the AMG! universe. Studying in the Nekomi Institute of Technology (N.I.T) as a 3rd year student (by the manga), Sayoko is almost a world apart from her arrogant cousin Aoshima. Made jealous of the competition in the form of Belldandy, Sayoko is determined to become the school belle (or queen as she calls herself) once again by defeating Belldandy fair and square. At least, as fair as she can make it.

Anyway, Sayoko is also one of the fabulously rich students at the N.I.T like her cousin Aoshima. Although, unlike Aoshima, Sayoko prefers to win through more honest methods rather than through devious plots. Apparently she understands the satisfaction gained in winning through hard work. Of course, money makes the world go round and her fortune just helps to grease her work along, and she isn't averse to using planning and plottings, albeit minor ones, to gain her goals.

Originally, Sayoko had won the title of school Queen fairly and everyone wanted to date her. (Even Keiichi!) So, as with all her competition, it seems Sayoko is determined to defeat Belldandy "queen" to "queen" (kinda like a chess game, if you ask me) in a fair fight. She'd tarnish her reputation if she played dirty anyway. But even though her original plan was just to drive away Belldandy, it seems Belldandy's relation with Keiichi has made Sayoko develop an interest in him, so she's just working harder to defeat Belldandy then win Keiichi. She had no interest in him before Belldandy's arrival. It must be something about Keiichi's faithfulness to Belldandy that makes him such an interesting catch.

Sadly, Sayoko has little religious faith. She doesn't seem to believe in heaven and the existence of Gods/Goddesses and demons, preferring to believe in the material plane and the power of.... you got it, wealth, beauty and a little luck. She seems to believe in magic though, she's always referring to Belldandy's unusual abilities to get through the stickiest of situations with extreme ease as a result of Belldandy being some sort of magician. But she appears to have accepted this fact and is still working dilligently to defeat Belldandy.

However, Sayoko is also a very dilligent woman in many other senses. When she takes an interest in something she puts herself into her work with all her heart and pride. Be it winning Keiichi, painting, having fun, anything. She takes pride in the fact that she accomplished the deed on her own without outside help. This makes for a very fine quality in her, unlike Aoshima. Of course like any one of us, she might just take things a little too seriously, but it's nothing to be afraid of. She just wants to be the best she can be.

Like any one of us, Sayoko is a person with all her good and bad points. A very well thought out character in my opinion, she is worthy of respect despite her outward appearances pointing in the other direction otherwise.
