On the 6th: Affliction - Hilary and Jackie - The King and I (animated) - a remake of the old classic. About a english school teacher and her relationship with the King and his children that she teaches. She teaches them western ways but he is reluctant to accept these ways himself. Wing Commander - Muder of Crows - On the 13th: She's all That - teen movie about the end of high school, parties, and relationships. Zack makes a bet with his friend that he could make any girl in school prom queen in a few weeks. While trying to win the bet, Zack falls for the girl and is unsure on how to handle it. A Civil Action - a true story about a legal case involving New England residents hiring a small law firm to combat a few large companies about their suspicions of contaminants in their drinking water. John Travolta has a great performance in which kept me in my seat watching to see what happened next. On the 20th: 8mm - Nicholas Cage plays a private investigator hired to find out if a girl that appeared to be killed in an 8mm porn film was actually killed. The worried wife just wanted to know of her husband would actually have something like that or it the film was a fake. To find the truth Nicholas cage has to go deeper into the porn industry than anyone would ever want to know about in their life. I felt that this was a very good movie but that it is not for everybody. I think you should know what you are getting into before you rent this one. Virus - A sci-fi thriller about a being from outer space that invades the computer system on a ship, learns about it's inhabitants, and then plans to kill them and any others it finds like it. The electrical being takes over everything on the ship and it's up to just a few people to stop it before it can reach a transmitter and take over computers around the world. Jamie lee Curtis and Baldwin both had good performances in this one. Anybody who doesn't mind the almost twilight zone type story is in for a treat with this one. Just think, computers running the world, yeah right, like it will ever happen. On the 27th: Baby Geniuse's - October Sky - Blast from the Past - Alicia Silverstone and Brandon Frasier are in this cute lil movie about a family that is scared into their bomb shelter thinking that the big one had just hit. After thirtyfive years, they figure it is safe to go outside again. Brandon Frasier's character had never been above ground in his entire life but now he is sent out into the world to get supplies for his weak old parents still underground. He becomes friends with Silverstone and a romance soon follows. Payback - Mel gibson is after his money, $70,000 to be exact. After pulling off an incredible heist, he and is partner take off with $140,000. But when he and his partner go to divy it up his partner shoots him and leaves him for dead not expecting him to live. After a year of rehibiltation, he's back and wants his money. A typical Mel Gibson action movie, the bullets are flying and explosions are frequent. August |
