DM5 Page XI

Danielle pulled the glass shard out and continued onward.
As Danielle approached, Meagen took a few steps back.  Danielle was getting closer, still armed with the knife.
Meagen looked upward.  Just above the hole in the glass wall, the glass looked loose.  Maybe...
Danielle was now walking through the hole.  Meagen immediately threw her shotgun at the glass above the hole, and, sure enough, the glass broke loose, and the sharp edge of a chunk of glass pierced through Danielle's back.
Amazingly Danielle was STILL ALIVE!  Luckily, though, the glass that was through her torso managed to pin her to the ground.  She was squirming around, like she was anxious to break free and get Meagen.
Meagen went up to another part of the transparent maze, and Gary was at the other side of the glass.
"Don't worry, Gary, you can find away out of there, I think, " Meagen reassured him.
Gary told her, "I've tried everywhere!  It's like I'm boxed in.  I'm not giving up, though.  Hey, what's that sound?"
Meagen heard the sound, too.  It was like an electronic beeping that happened every second or so.  "I think it's coming from your backpack," she told him.
Gary opened up his backpack and looked inside.  His face did not look reassuring.  "It's the bomb!!  The bar must've slipped out of it somehow!!"
Meagen felt her stomach twist.  "Can you deactivate it?!"
Gary tried putting the bar back into the explosive, but the countdown still went on.  "I don't think so," he answered her.
"Gary!!  You HAVE to find your way out of this maze, NOW!!"
Gary responded, "I will, but you have to get out of here!!"
Meagen screamed, "NO!!  I won't leave you here, I won't go without you!!"
"Just do it, Meagen, we only have 57 seconds left!!" Gary argued.
Meagen reluctantly agreed.  "OK, but you have to promise me you'll escape!"
"I promise.  Now GO!" Gary commanded.
Meagen turned back and sprinted away.  For a second she glanced back at Danielle, still stuck to the ground because of the glass.  Meagen continued to evacuate.
Suddenly, she was lost.  There were several paths to choose from, and it took her a while to orient herself and choose one.  She kept running.
   ...30...
Meagen could see the exit doors coming up in front of her.  Sweat poured from her forehead as she ran as fast as she could.  BUT out of nowhere the zombified Puff Daddy and Jennifer Lopez were in front of her, and they looked pretty bloodthirsty (as if they didn't when they WEREN'T zombies!).  Fortunately, they were so slow and awkward moving that Meagen just moved passed them.
   ...15...
Scott and Sunny were at the front doors, and Meagen screamed for them to "Get the hell outta" there.  They ran with her as she went passed the doors and down the red carpet.
  ...10...
Meagen got passed the red carpet and was now on the parking lot.  Still, she wasn't sure if she would be far enough from the explosion to be safe.
   ...5...
They were still on the parking lot.  Suddenly, Meagen remembered something.  "Ricky!  Constance!  Where are they?" Meagen cried.
"It's OK, they got out of the building not too long ago," Scott answered.
   ...3, 2, 1, 0...........
The civic center exploded in a gigantic fiery inferno that destroyed everything in its path. The sound was deafening. Meagen felt the heatwave hit her back, and a couple bricks narrowly missed hitting her in the back of the head.
Meagen kept running for a minute, her ears ringing.  She finally stopped, catching her breath.  She looked around her.  There was Constance, Ricky, Sunny, and Scott.
She dropped her shotgun and stared at the destroyed building, still in flames.  "GARY!!  NO!!!!!"
   Everyone else was silent.
"I knew I shouldn't have left him there!!"  Meagen held back tears.
   "I'm sorry, Meagen," Sunny said.
Meagen was down on her knees, "It's OK.  I'll be OK..."

About 15 minutes later, the police arrived, as well as more press.  Meagen, Sunny, Ricky, and Scott sat on the grass by the parking lot.
"Are you OK, Meagen?" Scott asked.
Meagen sighed, and answered, "Yeah, I'm fine."
Sunny said, "You're gonna have to tell the cops everything in a few minutes.  And, sorry for not telling you guys that I'm an FBI special agent, but I had to keep it a secret."
"It's OK," Meagen told her.  She added, "You know what I've learned?  It was a good thing that me and Gary never got together, because we weren't destined to be lovers, we were destined to be friends..."
"Oh my God it's Gary!" Constance interrupted.  Everybody turned behind them, and sure enough, Gary was slowly walking toward them.
Meagen fought back tears of joy and ran to him, giving him a huge hug.
"Gary!" she yelled even though he was right there.  "I thought you were dead!!"
"No, I'm alive," Gary said.  "I found a way out of the maze and I got out through the back exit."
Meagen smiled, swallowed, and asked, "Gary, do you want to, like, see a movie or something?  Just the two of us?"
"Sure," Gary answered.  "How about Scream 3?"
"Um, no, I think we've had enough of those movie," Meagen commented.
From behind her, Sunny exclaimed, "Meagen!  What about that whole 'being destined to be friends' thing?"
"Destiny can wait," Meagen told her.
"Hey, you know what?" Constance asked.  "All our problems are solved!  The killers are dead, Dan's dead, Danielle's dead, you and Gary got together, me and Ricky have settled our issues, and we've gotten rid of all these zombies!"
Scott said to the contrary, "My problem isn't solved!  There's still nobody out there that understands what it's like to be a resurrected clone of a dead serial killer.
Meagen smiled.  She still hadn't told them that she was a clone of Sabrina yet.  "I understand you, Scott," she told him.  "I can kind of relate to that."
"So I guess my problem is solved," Scott admitted.
Gary then went, "Oh, Meagen, I've got something for you."
Meagen was curious.  "What is it?"
"You left this in the building."  Gary got out Meagen's shotgun.
"Oh!  Sparky!" Meagen took the gun and held it like it was a teddy bear or something.  "Thanks, Gare-Bear."
The sky was now a dark blue, and the sun was just barely above the horizon.
Ricky asked, "Did everybody have a Happy Sabrina Day?"
Sunny answered, "Are you kidding?  It totally sucked!  Well, except for the part where we kicked the killers' and zombies' asses!"
Meagen's answer: "It had its moments."
Meagen, Gary, Ricky, Sunny, Scott, and Constance Spano watched the sunrise.
And that's the end of The Douglas Murders.
