Based on a novel by William Trevor, Felicia's Journey follows a young Irishwoman (Cassidy) to England in pursuit of the boyfriend who knocked her up and left no forwarding address. She encounters a middle-aged bachelor (Hoskins) who prepares elaborate dinners by following very precisely the videotapes of his mother's old cooking show - Arsinée Khanjian is very funny as Mom. The story turns into an unexpected study of the relationship between a very unusual serial killer and his intended, but with some surprising twists. Not a thriller at all, but a drama about the darker corners of the human heart, and how people get trapped in them. Proof that Egoyan is a great director when he's adapting other people's material. Full credit to a pair of Egoyan's regular collaborators, cinematographer Paul Sarossy and composer Mychael Danna. - JH
