The 70s Era Leafs

I was a complete Leafs fanatic during the days of Mike Palmateer, Darryl Sittler, Lanny McDonald and Tiger "done like dinner" Williams.

One of my favourite activities was to head down to Maple Leafs Gardens on a Saturday afternoon and meet The Leafs players before a game. They  were always terrific, posing for photos and signing autographs.

Here are some of my favourite memories...

Mike Palmateer (signing my autograph book!) March 1978, just before  the 6th game against the New York Islanders. The Leafs won the game and took the quarter final series in 7 games.

Laurie Boschman and I, February 1980

Darryl Sittler, March 1978. I realize some of these pictures are pretty blurry but for a 12-year-old kid thrilled about meeting her idols for the first time, I'm surprised they turned out at all!!

What a difference 20 years makes! I included this 1978 photo of Trevor Johansen (an extremely well-built player!) because the little guy directly beside him is my brother Doug, who now stands 6 ft. 4 in. tall!

YES, I followed them to their cars!

Pat Hickey (1980) was so gorgeous, I thought he could have been a movie star. Look at that great hair!!

Me and my idol, Mike Palmateer, February 1980.

Since I have such a great dad who took all us kids (and my mom, of course) to Leafs games all the time during the late 70s and early 80s, I had to buy him tickets to one of the last games ever played at Maple Leaf Gardens. I even got Greens, which is where we always sat. Here he is, Christmas 1998, holding my gift.
