Minnie Driver was born Amelia Driver in England, January 31st in 1971. She was the second and last girl of Gaynor Churchward and Ronnie Driver, and the sister of a Kate. When Minnie was a baby, the family went back to Barbados, where Ronnie was from. Being a model, Minnie's mother would do fun things with she and Kate. She was a model with incredible fashion sense, and would dress up the two girls for events and parties. At Minnie's tender age of 7, Ronnie and Gaynor divorced, and it left Minnie devastated. In that year, Gaynor packed up her two little girls and the three of them moved back to England. When Minnie got older, she tagged along with her sister and joined a boarding school by the name of Bedales, the first co-ed boarding school in England. "Bedales was really extraordinary," says Minnie. "You were encouraged to write as much as possible--stories and poetry and things called observations, which were dissertations on some mundane action like drinking a cup of tea." Minnie liked Bedales a lot because it stood out and was very original. At 16, Minnie left Bedales to head to the much-fantasized about London, but her parents sent her to France instead. There, she applied and auditoned for the top 10 drama schools and was accepted to the Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art in London. Minnie completed her drama degree in 1991. At that time, she was working small jobs in theater and television. Minnie also has a talent for singing and playing guitar, so she did jazz vocals and guitaring at London clubs too. Then Minnie started to get roles in films like The Politician's Wife, and a little miniseries. At last came her big break. 1995--Circle of Friends--starring Chris O'Donnell. The story is set around a group of friends in the'50s who live in Ireland. The movie came easy to Minnie, and her voice was as natural as ever, yet there were a few perks. Minnie had to gain about 25 pounds to play the role of her character, Benny. With Circle of Friends being such a success, Minnie got other roles in other movies, but had to lose the weight first. Minnie had small and big roles in movies such as Golden Eye, Big Night, and Baggage. In the following years, Minnie starred in movies with such huge icons like Dustin Hoffman, Brad Pitt, and Morgan Freeman. In 1997, Minnie auditioned for a movie called Good Will Hunting. The amazing screenplay was written by two young boys from Massachussetts named Ben Affleck and Matt Damon. After watching Minnie read her lines for the audition, Matt Damon knew she was perfect for the role of Skylar, a brainy Harvard student who inherits her late parents' 25 grand. While filming the movie, Minnie and Matt began dating and seemed deeply in love, and they were. Good Will Hunting was released around Christmas in 1997, and burned up the Box Office. It was a hit. Then surprisingly, it was nominated for Golden Globes, and won Best Screenplay. Minnie and Matt started to move apart around that time, and Minnie claims Matt pretty much broke-up with her over television when he announced they were no longer a couple on the Oprah show. A devastated Minnie was seated right in front of Matt at the 1998 Academy Awards, and watched her ex boast about on stage with Ben when they won Best Original Screenplay. "In the aftermath of Matt Damon," she says, "The worst thing is feeling, how could I have so misjudged?" Minnie moved on and started dating Foo Fighters drummer, Taylor Hawkins. They broke up later in the year, but that didn't foil her at all. After all the Matt Damon crap that was overexagerated and talked of too much, Minnie still has the life. She now lives in a Los Angeles house with her producer sister. Minnie does many things with Kate, they attend award ceremonies, fashion events, and parties. Kate's in showbiz too and they have many things in common. The two girls also have a production company, Two Drivers, in which they've already made a few movies. Minnie is now dating the son of James Brolin, Josh, a hunky brunette actor who shares her height. The two have been dating since fall of 1998, and are together most of the time. They even took a trip to Hawaii together and both star in Slow Burn. Minnie Driver's life has been full of bumps and rocky turns, but it has all turned out decent. And if things ever go bad again, maybe she can just get into one of her characters that she plays so convincingly, and everything will turn out happily ever after. |
