TIPS

Grind!  When you do 2 or more tricks, you get multipliers, which multiply your final score of the trick by the number of tricks that were done in the move.   Grinds are an easy, effective way to get points.  Instead of doing one 500 point grind, do two 250 point grinds, which will give you the multiplier X2, increasing your score from 500 to 1000 (250 + 250 = 500 X 2 = 1000).
You can get very high scores by grinding, I've done a 250,000 point trick with almost all grinding.

Combo Grinds with Flip Tricks!  As stated above, more tricks equals more points, by giving you multipliers.  Now take that example from above, two 250 point grinds are better than a 500 point grind because of the X2 multiplier, which brings the score to 1000.  If you were to add an Impossible, or any other Flip Trick (Except Kickflip to Indy, Varial, Finger Flip, and usually Sex Change) in the middle of the grinds, you would get 250 (grind) + 250 (Impossible) + 250 (grind) which adds up to 750.   This 750 would be multiplied by 3 because you did three tricks, 2 grinds and a Flip Trick.

End Grinds with Big Tricks!  When grinding, you must obviously come to a stop sooner or later, because there is no way to stay on a grind forever without cheating or having impossibly great balance using the left & right directions.  Therefore, you must get off the grind, and you want to do that with style to impress your friends, or get a higher score.  To do so, when you ollie off the grind, which I assume you already do, try adding a small Flip Trick, or if there is enough space between you and the ground, stick in a Grab Trick.  This will give you more points and more speed, unless you land crooked.  This may take a while to get used to, but it is a great way to get the extra points to win against a friend in Multiplayer Mode.

Nollie or Fastplant with Every Trick!  Nollies & Fastplants are easy, effective ways to rack up multipliers.  To Nollie, tap Up before releasing X, or just tapping Up before hitting X, if you don't usually crouch (You should almost always be crouching).  Fastplants are done the same way, but you hit Up twice.  These add 200 (Nollie) or 250 (Fastplant) points to your trick, but most importantly adds a multiplier.  Tony Hawk's The 900° is worth 8000 points, but a Fastplant + The 900° racks up 16500 points, which makes learning the Fastplant worth it just to do The 900°, much less adding it to all other moves.

Nollie or Fastplant onto Grinds!  Nollies and Fastplants aren't just for aerial tricks, try adding them to the start of grinds as well.

Stick to Quarterpipes for Grab Moves!  When doing grab tricks, use quarterpipes to get points.  Doing a 180 Benihaha in the middle of the street isn't worth it when you could do a 540 Fastplant Benihaha off a quarterpipe.  That would make the trick worth less the next time you do it.
