The king asks the Djinn to show him wonders. The sorcerer comes out to the hall and sees many people dying in strange ways. He fights his way through to the king's throne room, where the Djinn is pressuring the king to make his 3rd wish. The sorcerer confronts the Djinn and king. He traps the Djinn in a fire opal.
The present. Raymond Beaumont(Robert Englund) and his assistant Ed Finney(Ted Raimi) are awaiting a statue, Ahura Mazda. The crane operator, Mickey Torelli, drops the statue on Beaumont's assistant. One of the workmen finds the fire opal in a piece of the statue and pockets it. He takes it to a pawn dealer, who brings it to Regal Auctioneers to be appraised. Alexandra Amberson(Tammy Lauren) is looking at the jewel when she thinks she sees something wrong with it. She rubs it and then blows on it. She places it under the microscope and as she begins to look at it, she hears a voice say, "You woke me.". She looks up and then goes back to looking in the microscope and sees a shape in the jewel as the voice repeats, "You woke me.". She takes it to her frind Josh( ) so that he can run some tests on it. She goes to her girl's basketball practice and she hears the voice again. Josh is running tests on the jewel at this time and as the Djinn escapes the fire opal, the machine in Josh's lab explodes. Alex, on intuition, feels something is wrong and calls Josh. Josh is hurt badly and can't answer the phone. The Djinn, not fully formed yet, crals over and asks Josh if he'd like the pain to stop. Josh answers yes, so the Djinn kills him. Alex sees a vision of this in her mind. The Djinn grows stronger after granting the wish and leaves the lab. Meanwhile, Alex rushes to see Josh and discovers that her vision was right and that Josh is dead. While she talks to the police, the Djinn is up to his mischief. He meets a homeless man who has just had an arguement with the pharmicist(Reggie Bannister) of a local pharmacy. He asks the man if he'd like his enemy to die and how he'd like him to die. The bum says that he'd like the man to die from cancer. The Djinn grants his wish. Alex has a vision of this while she is talking to the police and she runs off. The bum is horrified by what the Djinn does and runs off into the night screaming his head off. Alex returns home and has an agreement with her younger sister, Shannon. Alex says that it's her fault, but Shannon tells her it's not. They then argue about a fire that happened when they were younger that caused their parents to die and they escapaed. Alex goes to bed, but has a nightmare about the fire and about Josh. She wakes up screaming and the Djinn's voice says, "I can smell your fear.". The next day Alex goes to visit the dock worker to talk about the fire opal. She learns that it came from Beaumont's staue. The Djinn, meanwhile, is making a visit to the school of medicine. Alex goes to visit Beaumont so that she can learn about the statue. Back at the school of medicine, a student walks into the morgue where he sees the Djinn cutting off one of the bodies face. The Djinn asks the student if this is something he does not wish to see. The student says yes, so the Djinn seals his eyes shut and puts on the face so that he has a human face (Andrew Divoff). Alex faints at Beaumont's house and has another vision of the Djinn's doing. Beaumont then invites her to his party. She turns him down. Alex goes to visit Wendy(Jenny O'Hara), who tells her about the fire opal and the Djinn. She tells her how evil the Djinn is. The scene cuts to a department store, where the Djinn, in human form, is buying a suit. He asks the salesgirl if she would like to have everlasting beauty. When she says she'd like to be beautiful forever, he turns her into a mannequin. The scene tnhen goes back to Alex as she sees this vision and hear's the Djin's voice say, "Soon I will find you.". Wendy finishes telling Alex about the Djinn. The Djinn, meanwhile, goes to the police station to find out where Alex lives. During this time, the Djinn grants a policeman's wish, causing a criminal to start killing everyone. Alex sees all of this in her mind. She starts to research the Djinn and the fire opal. That night, the Djinn goes to Regal Auctioneers. He is met by a security guard(Kane Hodder) who says the only way to get in is through him. The Djinn does just that. He goes to Alex's boss to try to get Alex's address. He makes one of Nick's statues 100 times more valuable as it was by turning it into gold and putting diamonds inside of it. Nick asks for $1 million. The Djinn grants his wish by causing the plane that Nick's mother is on to explode. Alex goes to her girl's basketball practice. She tries calling Wendy on her sister's cellphone but never gets an answer. As she walks away, the Djinn asks to use the phone and hits redial to see who Alex was calling. Alex looks over after he finishes and sees him sitting there, but when she looks back, he's gone. The Djinn goes to Wendy's house. He changes back into his true form and collects the souls of the detective, the bum, the salesgirl, Nick, and the student. Alex has a vision of all of this and rushes off to Wendy's house. She tells Wendy about it. Wendy continues to try to do things for her. Alex realizes this and tries to leave, but the Djinn's voice commands her to sit down. When she turns around the Djinn is there in human form. He tells her about what he did to Wendy (took off her face) because she released from her fear when she saw his true face. The Djinn shows Alex his true face. He gives her one free wish and she wishes for him to blow his brains out. He does so, then his skull reforms. He tells her that which is eternal cannot die. Her next wish is to know what the Djinn is. She is transported inside the opal and as he sits on his throne he tells her that her is the cry of an abandoned child, the face that stares bavk at you from the shdows and the mirror, the hollownesss at the heart of all hope, and that he is despair. She runs through the maze and eventually wishes to be back in her apartment alone. She is returned and discovers that her sister went to Beaumont's party. She drives to his party. At a stop sign, the Djinn breaks her car window and she speeds off again. The Djinn appears outside, so she runs to the doorman and says the a man is chasing her. The doorman(Tony Todd) and the Djinn exchange words. The Djinn asks the doorman if he would like to escape. The doorman says yes, so the Djinn wishes him into a tank full of water with a staightjacket on and says, "Houdini did it in 2 and a half minutes". Alex searches for her sister and when she finds her, Shannon tells her to see Beaumont's new friend. His new friend turns out to be the Djinn. Beaumont says he'd love to host a party that would go down in history. This party has people dying in bizarre ways, just as the first party did. Alex runs around trying to find Shannon. The Djinn finishes his drink and goes after Alex, in Djinn form. He tells Alex that he doesn't need her dead, just for her to wish she was. As she runs through the halls she sees Beaumont, who has a monster coming out of his mouth. A group of security guards come in to save Alex. The Djinn turns a hall of statues to life and they finish off the security guards. The Djinn and his statues continue after her. She runs into the room where Ahura Mazda was supposed to be. The Djinn and his group come in and the Djinn shows Alex his "artwork", a picture of Shannon burning in a house. The Djinn continues to pressure Alex to make her wish. She thinks about all of the clippings and news stories and then wishes that the dock worker, Mickey Torelli, hadn't been drinking on the job 2 days ago. The djinn is pulled back into the fire opal and Alex says, "Wish you'd never met me?". The time goes back 2 days and the statue is delivered safely. Josh and Alex get together for their long sought-after date and everything has returned to normal. As the movie ends, we see Ahura Mazda and the fire opal. As the camera zooms in , we get a last glimpse of the Djinn sitting on his throne and he's laughing.
