Here is the absolutely most sexy, adorable, and conscientious person in the whole movie--Arvid (Frank Whaley). Arvid's the finest looking of the Hepcats and the first one to call into question the Nazis' true motives. Rather than become a bonafide killer, Arvid kills himself. I must say he was the least appreciated of the Hepcats, and Frank Whaley is one of the most underrated stars today. Who couldn't fall for him? But what about the REAL Frank Whaley? Are all of his roles great? YES!!! First and foremost, Frank's single!!! He was born on July 20, 1963, in Syracuse, New York. He has a ton of great movies under his belt, such as JFK (where he is the Oswald impersonator), When Trumpets Fade (as Medic Chamberlain, ooh la la!), Broken Arrow (as drool-worthy Giles Prentice), Pulp Fiction (as Brett, a highly charged eight minutes of screen time, in which he tries to pull a fast one over Marcellus Wallace), and, of course, Swing Kids (as Arvid). Okay, so what were his other roles like, or the ones that I have watched, anyway? In JFK, he's the Oswald impersonator at the target practice field. This part is very short, like 20 seconds of screen time in it, but Frank is still great! He was Medic Chamberlain in When Trumpets Fade, and I could devote a whole web site to this character!!! Oh, wow, he has the best line in the entire movie!!! There's this guy named Manning who only wants to save his own hide in the Hurtgen Forest Campaign during World War 2. So Manning's talking to this lieutenant who wants Manning's help, and Manning says, "Look, if I can help you in any way without endangering my own life, I won't hesitate. If you want my opinion, I'll give it to you. But I'm not taking a bullet for anybody." The lieutenant says, "That's not good enough," and Manning replies, "That's as good as it gets." Manning walks out of the building, where Medic Chamberlain has been getting supplies and has heard the whole conversation, and he says as Manning walks out, "Tell you what, Dave. You find yourself out there in the middle of a firefight, with your guts haning out, screaming for a medic, if I can help you in any way without endangering my own life, I won't hesitate." This is definitely the most powerful line in the movie, because medics risked their lives daily for the sake of the wounded. Four stars for this powerful role! In Broken Arrow, Frank is an honest Yale graduate high-up government guy. Cute, as always (Frank, that is), and I'd give Frank four stars for this role, but he is kind of a bookwormish guy in the role, but makes suits and ties look great!!! He makes this role come alive, whereas a lesser actor would screw up the whole thing royally. And Brett, the Big Kahuna burger eating guy who tried to cheat out Marcellus Wallace. This is a tense role, full of emotions that kind fo grip you while you are watching it. He makes a bit part take on a life of its own! The only thing I hate about this role (actually, there is two): too short, and poor Brett is shot repeatedly. Still four stars for Frank! As for Swing Kids, which I have already described in detail, out of four stars I give this film 100! That's all I can say. Frank takes Arvid, who could easily come across as a whiny, petulant boy, and makes him into a three demensional, lovable, and handsome to boot character. So those are the few movies I have seen with Frank in them, but I am desperately searching for more! Seems the local Blockbuster doesn't carry many Frank videos. Damn them! Okay, I LOVE Frank's New York accent. It isn't very obvious in Swing Kids, but it's there in in When Trumpets Fade! I love his accent!!! A few words out of Frank's mouth in that accent: company=cump-nee, fire=fie-uh, -ing=-in', yards=y-ahh-ds. Sigh! Did I mention that I love his accent? Oh yeah, one more thing--I HATE IT WHEN FRANK DIES!!! Out of the five movies I have listed, Frank has a mortality rate of 60%! Good thing he even knows how to die in a sexy manner, but it still sucks!!! |
