The Arrival

The arrival of Gianna (Gia) Mayfaire in Four Corners

The carriage entered the town of Four Corners shortly before dusk. It was a rather large carriage, and drew some curious looks from the townsfolk that were out and about. It stopped in front of the Ritz Hotel, the hotel founded by Maude Standish. The carriage driver hurriedly got down from his seat and opened the door to the carriage. His companion started to unload the baggage from atop the vehicle.

When the carriage door opened, out stepped a handsome, well-dressed gentleman who was in his mid-fifties. "Mr. Mayfaire, this is the town of Four Corners", said the carriage driver.

"Splendid, we made excellent time," commented the man. The man then turned to help a striking, young woman out of the carriage. She was followed by two other men, one very handsome (like the older gentleman) and the other, who had the look of a bookworm.

"Father", began the woman, "this place seems so uncivilized. Are you sure we should be looking here?"

"Gianna, we are looking for several things. I'm sure we will find SOMETHING we need here."

"Yes, I am sure you are right", Gia answered as she scanned around the town with a sly smile on her face.

Geoffery Mayfaire then told his sons, Seth and Tristian, to help the drivers take the luggage into the hotel. They did as their father asked, and then, Mr. Mayfaire extended his arm to his daughter and they made their way into the hotel. All the while, Josiah watched the scene from the saloon doors of the Standish Tavern. Ezra, Vin, Chris, and Nathan were all playing cards at their usual back table, while JD looked on. Buck was busy flirting with Inez. Nathan noticed that Josiah was studying awfully hard on something. "What'cha looking at, Josiah?", asked Nathan.

"I don't rightly know, but I have a very unsettling feeling", replied Josiah.

"Trouble", asked Vin, as he started to rise and walk toward Josiah.

"Maybe" was all Josiah could say.
