SMOKEY ROBINSON AND THE MIRACLES

The Miracles and Motown is so closely integrated that it's lead singer in time would become vice-president of the hit-making machine.  Although Smokey Robinson was the most notable member to the public, it's members have contributed immensely to the Motown culture and phenomenon.  After the departure of Smokey in the late 70's, they continued to have hit singles and is widely considered one of soul music major influence.

SMOKEY ROBINSON TRIVIA:

As a child, everyone called him "Smokey Joe" because he loved to play cowboys. One of his uncle supposedly gave him that moniker but as he grew older, he dropped the "Joe" but retained "Smokey" which he used as his professional stage name.
