Jensen Ackles: plays Eric on Days of Our Lives
His buddy: Ty Vaughn
Friends since: seventh grade, when Ty moved to Jensen's school in Dallas; they now live together in Los Angeles
How did you meet?
Jensen: We were in study hall and weren't supposed to talk. I was making jokes and Ty just chimed in and made me laugh and from then on...
Ty: ...he kinda took me under his wing.
How is a guy friendship unique?
Jensen: I think feelings are more understood between guys. You don't have to talk, you just know; girls want to open up more.
What makes you friends?
Jensen: Humor is a real big thing with us.
Ty: Major sarcasm!
What do you do for fun?
Ty: We sit on the couch and play Nintendo. That's about it! [Laughs.] We're pretty competitive, though.
Jensen: We also go to the basketball court down the street. We both love sports.
If you had a problem, would you talk about it or breeze over it and go play basketball?
Ty: Well if there's a death in the family or something, you've definitely got to console your best friend.
How do you split time with the guys when you have a girlfriend?
Jensen: It's more of an issue with the girl. If I spent a few days with Ty, my girlfriend would get all over my rear. But if I hung out a couple of days with her, I don't think he'd care.
Ty: I wouldn't, but I'd love giving him a hard time.
When would you rather hang out with a guy instead of a girl?
Jensen: When there's a lot of testosterone involved, it's usually best to keep the women away. But it depends on the girl's attitude. If she's up for anything, cool. But if she's prissy, it might be a problem.
Okay, so a hot girl walks by. What do you say to each other?
Jensen: Guys have their own language -- you don't really have to say anything. Just a look or a gesture.
If a guy chats up a girl at a party, would he later tell you everything?
Jensen: Not at all. He'd come over and be like, "Yep, got her number." That's about it.
No details?
Jensen: Nope. Just want the high point.
What would you do in front of each other but not in front of a girl?
Jensen: I don't know if I want to tell you that! Just feel more comfortable with how you talk and what you wear. You can sit in your boxers and watch TV. But if a girl comes over, I'm like, "Dang it, I gotta get up and put some shorts on."
Ty: You definitely gotta watch your language.
Jensen: And your bodily functions.
How else does the way you act change when a girl is around?
Jensen: There's more respect, especially if we don't know her. We'll be on our guard, clean up our act.
Do you ever do something totally out of character in front of a girl?
Ty: Yeah, and then you gotta bust him hard. I don't want to embarrass Jensen, but he tries to turn on the charm sometimes.
Jensen: Before I was with my girlfriend, that is.
Oh, of course. How does he turn on the charm?
Ty: He'll be all Mr. Nice Guy. It's not like he's trying to change himself, he's just trying to impress someone.
Would you care if your friends were like, "Your girlfriend's so lame"?
Jensen: If you just started dating, you might say, "Yeah, good point." But if you were totally snowed you'd be like, "Whatever."
How much do you talk about relationships?
Jensen: Rarely. But if you were in a situation and you didn't know what to do, you'd ask what he thinks.
Do you talk about sex?
Jensen: Maybe a real quick whatever, but no mush. No romantic details!
Ty: I don't wanna hear that!
Jensen: And I don't want to tell him!
If you're dating some randon girl, would you talk about her more?
Jensen: Probably. With a girlfriend there's more respect; you want to keep it just between the two of you.
How often do you guys get ticked at each other?
Jensen: Only when we're beating each other at something. But very rarely is there a need for an apology.
So what's the coolest thing you've ever done for each other?
Jensen:We paid for each other's 21st birthday parties. We went to Vegas for mine, and for Ty's we all dressed up, went to the Hotel Bel-Air, sat at the piano bar, smoked cigars. We just lived a little higher than we normally do.
Is this the most you guys have ever talked about your relationship?
Both: Definitely.
