In Paris, Eric and Greta get into some type of accident (haven't decided which type of accident it should be). Before the accident occured, they both have fallen in love with each other but had not addmitted it to the other because of fear of rejection and they didn't want to "ruin the friendship."
We only know for sure that Eric is in love with her because the night before when she wasn't around, he said to himself that he loved spending every minute with her and that she's everything he wanted in a woman. He also bout her a beautiful necklace that looks pretty costly. He doesn't exactly say that he "loves" her, but what he said was pretty obvious that he does right?
Okay, back to the accident. While Eric is unconscious and possibly badly injured, Greta tells him that he can't die now and that she loves him. She drags him to safety and is able to get help from the locals. They are both brought to the Paris hospital. Greta turns out to be okay. She suffers from a sprained arm, but the doctor tells Greta that Eric was hit pretty severely in the head with something and that he might suffer from brain damage. Greta fears that she might lose Eric and she regrets telling him how she really felt about him. The only thing she can do now is watch over him and stay by his side.
A couple days later, Eric is finally conscious. Everything is fine and dandy except that he doesn't remember the reason he's in Paris, Greta (which probably means he doesn't remember being in love with her), and where he's from. In effort to help him regain his memory, Greta brings him back to Salem.
He slowly remembers about his childhood, his family, and his homelife. It looks like he's starting to have at least one faint memory of Greta and necklace he bought for her. However, when he sees a woman ( i haven't decided who it should be yet), he becomes infatuated with her and "thinks" that he's in love with her. They date for about a month ( we don't want it to be too long, right?)
When he tells Greta this, she is heartbroken and devasted. She does her absoloute best to hide this from him, since he only sees her as a "friend." He asks her if she's in love with anyone. He asked her this before, didn't he?
She replies by saying "I was so sure that i was in love with this beautiful, wonderful, warm, caring guy. A guy that was nice enough to bring me to Paris and help me put the pieces of my past back together. Now, I just don't know. I don't think I'll ever be able to tell him how I feel since he's in love with someone else."
Eric feels bad for her, and being the wonderful, warm, caring, beautiful guy that he is he offers her a shoulder to lean on but she doesn't accept. She thanks him for being a good friend, and that she'll miss being with him. Eric is confused but accepts the compliment. She says there's nothing for her in Salem. She has no family, no job, and no love. She's tired of seeing families destroy each other because of jealousy, deceit, and greed. She decides to leave Salem and go home to Paris. Eric tries to convince her to stay. She excuses herself and runs off before he could see her cry. While she leaves, something falls on the ground.
Eric is just sitting there and suddenly he sees some gleaming, shiny object on the ground. He picks it up and remembers something. He has quick, but memorable flashes of Greta smiling, himself and Greta laughing, and him putting on the necklace for her. The object that he's holding is the necklace that he had bought for her. (Let's just say it fell off of her because the hook had been loosened during the accident.) It all makes sense to him now. He puts it in his pocket and runs off to find her.
