Note: This doesn't include every single Eric and Greta summary in the month of January. Only the ones that I've had time to summarize.
January 19, 1999
Greta is at the Titan Photo Lab when Nicole comes in. She asks Greta how the apartment search is going and Greta says not that well. Nicole comments that it must be hard for Greta and Eric because of the risk of Mrs. Horton catching them in the nude at her house. Greta says that they would never do anything to embarrass Mrs. Horton. Nicole brings up the subject of sex and learns that Greta and Eric have not yet done the deed. Nicole is shocked and tells Greta what she's missing out on. She says that Eric is amazing in bed. When they were together, they made love anywhere and everywhere -- in the bed, in the shower, in the kitchen....... There were days when they never even made it out of the bedroom, and they missed a lot of meals. Greta gets really uncomfortable and says that she doesn't want to hear anymore. She tries to leave but Nicole pulls her back in. Nicole continues to say that Eric is a stud and he needs sex 24 hours a day. She guesses that it's Greta that's holding out. Greta asks Nicole if she and Eric made love on their very first date, and Nicole says no, but the chemistry was there since the very beginning -- they couldn't take their hands off each other. Nicole warns Greta that she better not hold out on Eric too long, or he might go looking for greener pastures. The apartment subject comes up again and Nicole says that she knows the perfect place for Greta. They agree to meet at Salem Place in one hour so Nicole can show her the place.
While all this is going on, Eric is in the dark room developing pictures. He runs across some pictures he previously took of Nicole and keeps having memories of her. He looks all hot and bothered while staring at the pictures. He asks himself why he can't stop thinking about her.
January 20, 1999
Bo is working on the Fancy Face II when Greta shows up to see him. Greta tells Bo how guilty she is feeling about not helping "Hope." Bo tells her that they both wished they had done things differently, but it is not their fault, it is DiMera's. Bo invites Greta onboard and asks her to help him out. Greta works with Bo, and tells him even when she was dying, "Hope" was acting so much like her mother. Greta apologizes for talking about her loss when it is his loss, but Bo tells her that they are both grieving. Greta remembers "Hope" telling her who her father was, and as she is about to tell Bo about it, he tells her that almost everything "Hope" said was a lie. Greta tells Bo that even though he has his family here for him, she is also here for him. Bo asks her if that means she's staying in Salem? Greta says yes, and that she's even going to look at an apartment today. She once again thanks Bo for forgiving her, but he says she loved her too, and they were both lucky to have her. John then shows up and says that he's glad he ran into Bo because he's been worried about him. Greta decides to go and let John and Bo have some time alone.
Meanwhile, Eric is walking around Salem Place and Nicole spots him. She asks if he's looking for Greta and he says he is and wonders how she knew that. She tells him that she knows him so well. She proceeds to tell him that she's happy for him and Greta and that all she ever wanted was for him to be happy. Eric says, "Yeah, that's why you married Lucas." Nicole says that she just meant that Eric looks happier without her. She asks if she's wrong and he doesn't answer. Nicole tells him that she'd like to be friends with him again. Eric thinks about that, then puts his hand on her shoulder, squeezes it, and tells her that they could be friends again........ if she tells him the truth about why she married Lucas. He now has both hands on her shoulders and begs her to tell him the truth. He wants to know why she gave up on what they had. Nicole asks him to let go of her and that she can't tell him. Eric, a little rattled, says that he has to go. When he is alone, he wonders why Nicole can still get to him.
Once Eric is gone, Greta shows up at Salem Place and greets Nicole. They head off to look at the apartment. It turns out that the apartment happens to be Nicole's old place -- the same place where Nicole and Eric shared all those steamy nights. Of course, Greta has no clue whatsoever. Greta wonders though why Nicole is all of a sudden being so nice to her, and Nicole says that this is a peace offering. Nicole presses Greta to take the apartment, and Greta eventually takes the keys and says that she'll think about it. Greta leaves and Nicole flashes back to a time when she and Eric made love in the apartment. She is confident that with Greta staying there, there's no way Eric will be able to stop thinking about Nicole.
January 24, 1999
Eric arrives at Sami and Austin's place dressed up in a suit. Sami is the only one there and she greets Eric. She asks him why he's there so early? Hope's funeral isn't for another couple of hours. She then gets excited and realizes that Eric must've found something out about Nicole to help her get full custody of Will. She asks Eric what dirt he dug up on Nicole, just as Austin walks in and hears her. He asks Sami and Eric what they're talking about, but Sami tries to change the subject. Austin won't let it go and Sami finally confesses that she wants to get the dirt on Nicole so that she can use it to fight Lucas for custody of Will. Austin is very angry with her that she would do that to Nicole, and Sami is surprised. She turns to Eric and asks what he has found out and he says nothing. He then tells her that he doesn't want to do this to Nicole and wants no part of Sami's scheme. Sami demands to know what Nicole did to get to him. What did she tell him? Eric says nothing and that's the problem. He doesn't believe that Nicole broke up with him because she wanted to; she did it because she had to. Unfortunately, she won't tell him the reason why. Austin chimes in that Nicole is obviously in pain and can't talk about it. Sami is frustrated and says that Nicole is playing the both of them and can't believe that they would take Nicole's side over hers'.
Austin tells Sami that Nicole had a tough childhood and that Sami should show more compassion. But Sami won't hear of it. Austin asks Eric what he knows about Nicole's family, and Eric admits not much. He knows about her sister, but didn't even know she had a brother until he came to town. Austin asks about her parents, but Eric says that whenever he brought them up, Nicole would change the subject. Austin is surprised that Eric could be engaged to someone and not know a lot about her family. Eric says that what he and Nicole shared hit him very hard and very fast. He didn't know that she was living with so much pain, and he didn't think about her past when he was with her. Sami interrupts and says that it's because he was so madly in love with her, and she says that he still is. Eric doesn't deny it, so Sami pushes on and says that the only reason Eric took the job at Titan was so that he could be close to her. She also says that his relationship with Greta is nothing but a rebound and that he really wants to be with Nicole again. Eric says that he wants to know the truth, and Sami says that he wants to know how Nicole could stop loving him, when he still loves her so much. Austin has had enough and tells Sami to be quiet. He tells both Eric and Sami that they are both so self-absorbed that they don't realize that the woman they're talking about (Nicole) has feelings too. She's had a rough childhood and needs someone to help her through all the pain. Eric finally decides that he has to get out of there and tells them that he's going to take a walk. Out he goes.
At the Horton house, Greta is busy feeding Alice and cleaning up her kitchen for her. Alice tells Greta that she had a dream that Hope came to her and she was so happy, so real. Greta feels bad for her, but changes the subject to moving out. Alice tells her that she'll miss her, but Greta feels she needs a place of her own. Alice leaves to get ready, and John shows up and gets physical with Greta. He grabs her and demands to know what "Hope" confided in her when she thought she was GIna. Greta says that "Hope" did a lot of things and she doesn't know where to begin. John asks Greta is she ever mentioned any specific encounters involving him or Stefano? Greta remembers "Hope" telling her who her father was. Greta tells John to stop it and go now! John knows she's not telling him something and he grabs her harder. Greta screams that he's hurting her! Suddenly, Alice shows up and asks what is going on here? Alice demands to know why John was yelling at Greta. John says he doesn't know and he says that everything that has happened has just gotten to him. Alice then gets a call from the police, who are trying to find Bo. The police say that someone at the crematorium is claiming that the body in the casket is not Hope's! John and Greta both decide to go over to the crematorium.
January 26, 1999
Eric is at the Titan Photo Lab fixing his camera equipment when Nicole walks in. He asks her what she's doing there. Shouldn't she be at home with her husband? She says that the last place she wants to be is at home. Eric asks why and Nicole says that Sami is watching her like a hawk and is really bothering her. She asks Eric if he thinks Austin and Sami have a future together. Eric is about to answer when he stops himself and says that he's tired of answering all of her questions, when she won't answer any of his. Nicole presses on about Austin and Sami and Eric wonders why she wants to know. Then he comes to the conlusion that Nicole is interested in Austin. Nicole denies it and says that it's the other way around. Austin is interested in her because he won't stop watching her, telling her to stop drinking, and that they've been talking about her childhood together. Eric is surprised and asks Nicole what she told Austin. She says that she just confided in him about her mother and what it was like growing up. Eric is visibly upset and asks why she could so easily confide in Austin, yet when they were together and he asked her about her childhood, she told him nothing. Nicole says that it is easy to tell Austin about her past because Austin already hates her and she doesn't really care what his opinion is of her. But with Eric, it was a different story. She loved him so much and she didn't want him to judge her and think of less of her. Eric says that he wouldn't have done that. He's upset with Nicole that she didn't just tell him. All she had to do was tell him the truth and they'd be together now. Nicole says that she couldn't because he would have left her, but Eric says that she never gave him a chance. She never trusted in their love. She didn't help him understand her, he only went with how he felt about her. Nicole asks him how he felt about her and Eric tells her that she knows that he was very much in love with her. A tearful Nicole agrees that she should have told Eric, and that she broke up with him to save him. All she ever wanted was his happiness. That's why she convinced Lucas to let him work at Titan again, and that's why she did a favor for his new girlfriend, Greta. Eric wants to know what she's talking about and Nicole tells him that Greta will tell him herself. Eric tells Nicole that his and Greta's relationship is based on honesty and that it is a refreshing change. Still upset, Eric says he has to leave and goes for the door. Nicole calls out his name and stops him. She tells him that all she ever wanted was for him to be happy and that he gave her memories that she'll cherish forever. Eric doesn't know what to say and finally says good night and leaves. In the hallway outside the photo lab, Eric is looking a bit sad and confused.
At the crematorium, everyone is trying to figure out if the body is really Hope's or Princess Gina's. They now think that it is a good possibility that it is Gina's body and that Hope is alive and out there somewhere. Greta speaks up and says that if this body is indeed her mother's, that Hope is still dead. Everyone wants to know what she means by that. Greta apologizes to everyone and says that her mother told her that when they (Gina and Hope) came face-to-face in Europe, that they were very shocked because they didn't know that the other existed. Greta explains that her mother told her that Hope was feeling very confused and very sad and that she jumped off a bridge and killed herself. Everyone is a bit shocked at first but Bo does not buy it. Hope would never do that. John asks Greta if Gina told her that taking over Hope's life would spare the family a lot of pain over losing her, and Greta tells him yes. It is just as John suspected saying that he's getting a good sense now of just how Gina's mind worked. Greta has a flashback of her mother telling her who her father is but doesn't say anything to anyone. The DNA guy comes to take the DNA sample from Shawn to confirm that the body is not his mother's, and Greta says that she wants to take the DNA test too. She has to know if this is really her mother. They do the tests and the DNA guy says that it'll take a couple of days for the results to arrive.
January 28, 1999
Greta and Eric are inside Greta'a new apartment (which happens to be Nicole's old apartment). Eric asks her if this is some kind of sick joke, and she is confused. She asks if she did something wrong. Should she have consulted him first, should she have had inspectors run through the place? Eric says that this apartment wasn't listed in the Classified Ads he gave her, but Greta tells him that word of mouth is usually the best way to find a place. Eric catches on and guesses that Nicole is the one who recommended the place to her. Greta is surprised that Eric would know that. She admits that Nicole told her about the place. She didn't particularly find Nicole friendly and found it strange that she acted like they were rivals. After all, Nicole's the one who broke up with Eric in the first place. As Greta is going on and on, Eric is clearly upset by all this and a little shaken. He starts having flashbacks of his time with Nicole in that apartment. When he comes back to reality, he hears Greta say that Nicole's friend is the one giving it to her, but Eric interrupts and corrects Greta. This apartment didn't belong to Nicole's friend -- this apartment belonged to Nicole. Greta is shocked.
Greta figures out that Nicole lied to her about the apartment. Eric starts walking around the place while Greta tries to bring him back to reality. He peeks inside the bedroom and then leans against the couch, looking very upset about the whole situation. Greta guesses that the place must be reminding Eric about all those intimate moments he shared with Nicole. She asks Eric point-blank if he still has feelings for Nicole, and he admits that he does. Just then the phone rings. Greta answers it. When she gets off, she tells Eric she has to go because the DNA test results are in and she has to meet Hope's family at the Crematorium. Eric says he'll go with her and she says whatever. They leave, as Eric turns around to get one last look at the apartment.
The DNA results are back and it is concluded that the body is not Hope's, but in fact Princess Gina's. Eric tries to comfort Greta, as she tells him "You were wrong."
