September 3, 1999

Greta is in her castle bedroom when Eric comes in. He asks her how she is doing, and she still believes that her mother was there with her last night. Eric tells her that she's sleeping in her mother's bedroom so it's only natural that she would dream of her. Greta tells Eric that she had a picture of her and her mother on the night table, but now it's gone. Eric says there has to be a logical explanation and it must be around here somewhere. Eric suggests that they explore the French countryside and tells her that he already packed a picnic basket for them.

Later, they are seen walking through the countryside when they find a good spot to settle down. They both open up the blanket and sit down on it. Greta asks Eric to tell her about the surprise he has for her, and he tells her that the Duke and Duchess have invited them to the upcoming ball. Greta is excited and is looking forward to attending. Eric says he would love to be her escort, and she accepts. She asks him if he misses Nicole. Eric confesses that it's hard not to think about her, but that she was never in love with him. She was only out to get rich.

Eric changes the subject and says he doesn't want to talk about Nicole anymore. He went to Paris to get away from her. Greta agrees and asks Eric if she can have some of that chocolate she saw in the picnic basket. Eric says she can but she'll have to get it away from him first. Greta accepts the challenge and they wrestle around, as she tries to get the chocolate away from him. They end up really close to each other. Will they kiss?

Eric and Greta are really close to each other, close enough for a kiss........ but the phone rings. Eric answers it and it's John. They decide to go back to the castle so they can meet him there. As they are packing up their stuff, Greta notices that something is bothering Eric. She asks him what's wrong and he explains to her how he used to give John a really hard time. He feels bad about it now, but Greta tells him that everyone makes mistakes. John has forgiven him and Eric just has to do the same and forgive himself. Eric smiles, thanks Greta, and tells her that she always knows what to say to lift his spirits up again. Greta smiles says that she probably got that from her mother. She brings up the fact that she saw her mother in her bedroom last night, but Eric tells her again that it was just a dream. They leave to go back to the castle.

Kurt has wandered into Greta's bedroom so he could put the picture of Greta & Princess Gina back onto the dresser. Greta walks in and seeing Kurt in her room gives her a shock. Eric comes running in and asks him what he's doing in her bedroom. Kurt says something about putting flowers in there and apologizes for the intrusion. He leaves and Greta finds the picture on the dresser. She says that it wasn't there when they left and Eric suggests that Kurt might have taken it. Greta doesn't know but what she knows for sure is that Kurt doesn't want them there. Eric agrees and wonders what Kurt is afraid they'll find.

September 7, 1999

John arrives in Paris and he meets Eric and Greta at the castle gates. They welcome him as Greta hugs him. Eric shakes his hand and thanks him for coming. John comments that Paris must agree with them because they look great. They talk about the grave exhumation that is going to take place that day and leave to go inside the castle.

Inside the castle, John is looking around. Greta tells him that she saw her mother last night. Eric quickly tells John that it was a dream, but Greta is still determined to believe that it was real. She explains more to John about what happened last night and John agrees with Eric that it was probably just a dream.

Greta and Eric show John around the castle and lead him into Princess Gina's bedroom. John gets a strange feeling and says that it's almost like he could feel Princess Gina's spirit there. He opens up the dresser and sees the clothes inside. John says that the feeling he has is so strong that if he believed in ghosts, he'd say that Princess Gina was there with them right now. Greta says she feels the same way. Eric suggests they go back to the front of the castle so they could hear the bell ring when the authorities arrive. John agrees and they leave the bedroom.

Later, John is on the phone. He gets off and tells Eric and Greta that it's all set and the exhumation is going to begin shortly. Eric tells Greta he wishes there was an easier way to do this. John does too and says that this is something he is not looking forward to. Not in the least.

September 9, 1999

Eric, John, and Greta are waiting for the grave diggers to show up. Eric says that Kurt doesn't want this exhumation to happen, Eric thinks he knows what they will find in the grave. Greta thinks that maybe Kurt is just appalled at the thought of digging up Princess GIna. John comforts Greta and says he knows this must be tough, but this is the only way to get answers. John wants to meet this Kurt and asks where he can be found? Eric says the last time he saw him he was snooping around Gina's bedroom. The grave diggers and the magistrate show up, and Greta begins to feel uneasy. John pats her on the shoulder and says he and Eric will take care of everything, she can wait here. As she sits on the sofa, GIna spies on her from the secret passage. Greta says that she feels her mother's presence so strongly, and she looks at the photo of her and her mother. She tells her mother that she misses her so much. She remembers Gina taking her to the Black Cat chocolate shop, the same one Hope visited with Doug and Julie as a little girl! In the secret passage, Gina is in tears and cries that her daughter remembers her. Back in the parlor, Greta hears a woman crying and she calls out "Mother, is that you!" Greta keeps crying out for her mother, and Gina continues to cry. Greta asks her mother to come to her. Gina says she is here, and runs away from Kurt. Gina tells Kurt that she must go to her daughter.

Outside, John and Eric watch as Gina's coffin is exhumed. The magistrate tells Jon and Eric that the body will be taken to town, identified, and an autopsy will be performed. John tells Eric that if Gina isn't in that coffin, they will have more questions than answers.

In the passage, Gina whispers that she is here. She tells Kurt that she must go to her, and tries to flea. John and Eric return and ask Greta what is going on? Greta says that her mother is here, she's sure of it. Greta tells them to just listen. In the passage, Gina hears a familiar voice, but Kurt tries to drag her away. John thinks that she is just upset. John tells her that there was a body in the grave and an autopsy will be run on it. Greta was hoping the coffin would be empty, but they don't know if her mother is the body inside yet. Greta says she knows what she heard and knows what she is feeling. Suddenly, they hear a noise! In the passage, Gina wants to see Greta now because she believes she is dead! Kurt says that this is not the time, they had an agreement. Gina says very well, but the minute Kurt turns his back on her, Gina makes a break for it. Eric and John search around for the source of the sound, but find nothing. John tells Greta that he knows she wants answers, he does to, and tells her that they will get the answers together. Meanwhile, Kurt gets Gina and is dragging her off to the tower. Gina knows another man is in the castle, aside from Eric, and begs to look at them one more time from the secret passage. Kurt allows her to look, and she sees a man on the phone. It is John but she only sees his back.

In Paris at the castle, Gina is spying on John, Greta, and Eric from behind the wall. She can't see John's face, but recognizes his voice. Kurt tells Gina that she must get back to her room, but on the way there Gina remembers that she forgot to close the spy holes and doesn't want Eric and Greta to learned they were being watched. Kurt goes back to shut the spy holes, and John, who heard voices from behind the wall, comes extremely close to finding Gina in the hallway, but stops when he receives a phone call from the morgue. Gina eavesdrops and later asks Kurt what all this talk of a body is about? Kurt tells her that they are exhuming her grave. Gina thinks it will be empty, but then hears John mention a woman's body in the grave. She asks Kurt who Stefano buried in her grave? Kurt doesn't answer her, he just whisks her back to her room. Upstairs Gina thinks that once the autopsy proves she is not buried in the grave, Greta will know she is not dead. Kurt tells Gina that Stefano would not want her roaming around free, but Gina doesn't care what Stefano wants. Gina vows to take her life back and get revenge on Stefano. She looks at herself in the mirror and asks Kurt how he is at cutting hair? Meanwhile, downstairs John learns that Princess GIna is buried in the grave, they matched her dental records, and she died of natural causes. Greta is heartbroken.

In Paris at the castle, Eric and John comfort Greta. John tells her that at least know the truth, Gina died of natural causes. Still, Greta is positive that her mother is alive and in this castle. John tells her that he knows how she feels. He says that she is in a castle surrounded by her mother's things and her memories, and those memories will help her heal. Greta thanks John for being here for her. John decides to look around the place, and tells them not to wait up. Greta tells Eric that she knows she needs to get over her mother's death, but she can't seem to let her go. Later, Eric makes them some tea and brings some cupcakes he stole from the cupboard. On the cupcakes are the letter G, and Greta gasps when she sees them. Greta says that these are her mother's favorite tea cakes, only her mother and Grandmother knew the recipe. She eats one and she remembers having these and tea with her mother when she was younger. Later, Greta decides to sell this castle and everything in it. Eric tells her that she can't do that, she should wait until she calms down a bit. Greta says he is right and thanks him. Eric says he owes her thanks for helping him get over Nicole.

September 17, 1999

In Paris at the castle, John comes down to see Eric. Eric asks how he slept? John says nothing went bump in the night, but it was a creepy experience. He tells Eric that this castle certainly holds a lot of secrets. As John looks at the map of the castle, Eric wonders if the castles secrets have anything to do with his past with Gina? Meanwhile, Kurt spies on John and Eric from behind the wall. Kurt wonders if John has come for Princess GIna. John tells Eric that he doesn't care about his past, but Eric can't help but wonder if being here makes him curious. John says that everything he did and felt back then was programmed by Stefano, and the love he felt for Gina is nothing compared to how he feels for Marlena. John says all he feels for Gina now is sadness.

In her room, Greta looks at herself in the mirror, she is wearing a diamond necklace and a black gown. Greta wonders why she feels her mother's presence here when her mother is dead. The phone rings, it is Bo calling. Greta says she has news about her mother, and Bo says he has news about Hope. Greta tells Bo about her mother, and how angry she is at Stefano for making Hope think she is her mother. Bo says that won't be the case any longer, his creation has broken free and is turning against him. Bo asks Greta if she is going to the ball tonight, and she says yes. Bo has something to ask her, but it won't be easy. Later, Greta runs into Kurt in the hall, he is carrying a tray with food, flowers, and hand cream. Kurt says they are all for him, his hands get very dry. Kurt notices she is wearing one of her mother's dress and says he reminds her of her mother, from the pictures he's seen. Kurt asks why John is here, so Greta says he only came to find out the truth about Gina. Greta says they have put the past behind them, and will probably be leaving soon. Kurt says he will take care of the castle. Greta doubts she will be keeping the castle and warns Kurt that he may want to look for another job. Before she lets Kurt go, she asks where his room is? He tells her that it is at the far end of the corridor, and then leaves. Kurt goes around the corner, and into the secret passage. Greta follows him, but when she turns the corner he is gone. She wonders where Kurt went?

Downstairs, Greta greets John and Eric, who are stunned by her elegant appearance. John tells her that she looks exactly like her mother. Greta says her mother is alive in her, and she wants to make sure she always is. Gina then assures them that she is not crazy, they were looking at her oddly. Greta tells them that she doesn't know what she will do with the castle after they return home. Eric leaves to get the deed to show John, and Greta tells John she can't help but wonder what would have happened if Stefano did not take him from her mother. John hugs her and tells her that he will always be there for her. Greta thanks John for going to this party, it is in her mother's honor. John says it is not for her mother, it is for an imposter. Greta knows that and says Bo has asked her to go all out tonight and play Gina's daughter to the fullest. Eric goes up to Greta's room, and finds Kurt going through her wardrobe.

September 20, 1999

Eric finds Kurt going through the closet in Greta's room. Kurt claims that he's putting Gina's clothes into storage so Miss Greta can put her dresses in there. Kurt asks if Greta was planning to wear one of these to the ball, they are going aren't they? Eric says they are. Kurt asks if John is going as well? Eric asks Kurt why he wants to know? Kurt says he just likes to keep track of his guests. Eric says he does not think John will be attending the party. Kurt wonders why, he was good friends with Gina? Eric says he was, but John does not remember his past with Gina. Kurt doesn't understand, and Eric tells him it is a long story. Eric says that John doesn't care about his past with Gina, he has a wife and kids back in Salem. Kurt is shocked to hear that John is married. Eric says he is married to his mother, and asks if he has a problem with that? Kurt doesn't, he is just shocked to learn this bit of news. Kurt excuses himself because he has work to do.

In the living room, Greta tells John that Bo has asked her to pretend Hope is her mother tonight. Greta says she hates the idea of people thinking Hope is her mom, but she has to do this for Bo. She says that after tonight, Bo and Hope may be able to get Stefano out of their lives forever. Eric comes downstairs later and tells Greta that he found Kurt coming out of the closet. Greta giggles, and Eric says he was actually going through her mother's clothes. Greta says they aren't exactly his size. Eric tells her that he gave her a lame excuse, and he thinks there is something more going on with Kurt. John doesn't like Kurt and whatever he has in store for Eric and Greta tonight, but Eric says he can handle it. Greta asks John to go to the party with them tonight, but John says he needs to get home. John admits he doesn't want to see the people he once knew, but Greta asks him to please come to the party.

September 21, 1999

In Paris at the castle, John tells Greta and Eric that he can't go to the ball. He says that with him out of the way, things will be easier for Bo and Hope, if Hope is fully back. John says Hope/Gina can't see him, otherwise Gina may return with a vengeance. Greta says she understands why he can't go to the party, but she is upset about it and begins to cry. Eric comforts Greta and tells her that he will be there for her tonight. John tells Greta that Eric will take very good care of her. Greta tells them both that they have been so good to her since they came to France, but she feels bad for her mom because nobody was there for her when she needed her and Father John. Eric says that is why Bo's plan has to work, he has to save Hope from meeting the same end her mother did. John tells Greta that he knows she has a lot of memories of his times with her and her mother, but that man is gone, and he doesn't want to remember him. He tells Greta, who he calls honey, that that man was a man created for Stefano to do whatever he wanted him to. Greta knows that her mother is gone, and he is different, but she can't stop wondering what would have happened if Stefano hadn't interfered with his or her mother's life. Eric says they will never know. Greta says she knows that her mother would still be alive, she knows that. Eric tells Greta that his mother was taken away as well, but Greta says she was hoping she would have gotten her mother back as he did. John tells Greta that her mother loved her and would want her to live her life, not be stuck in this might have been zone. Eric tells Greta that they should get ready for this party, but Greta doesn't know if she can go. Eric tells her that it is being thrown in honor of her mother, and Bo needs her there. He says he knows it is to late to save her mother, but it is not to late to save Bo and Hope. Greta says she will go for Bo and Hope. John tells Greta that he is proud of her and gives her a kiss on the forehead. John says he is out of here, and wishes them luck. Greta says they'll be leaving all this behind soon. Eric says it will be good getting back to Salem. Greta says this place has been a comfort to her. Eric says she doesn't have to sell this place, money isn't everything. Greta says she'd gladly give it all away to have her mom back for just one day. Eric holds and comforts Greta.

September 23, 1999

Eric and Greta are driving to the ball, Greta tells Eric that she doesn't know if she can carry this off tonight. She says she is nervous, but having him around boosts her confidence. Greta assures Eric that she wants to help Bo and Hope as much as she can. Eric promises her that he will be with her every step of the way. Greta tells Eric that she is afraid of making a mistake tonight, there will be so many people there she hasn't seen in years and she'll have to face Stefano knowing what he did to her mother. Eric promises Greta that he will take care of her and watch over her tonight. As they drive, Greta tells Eric where to turn to get to the Harriman's castle.

Eric and Greta arrive at the ball and are greeted by the Duke and Duchess. They tell Greta how lovely she has become. They says they are anxiously awaiting her mother's arrival. Eric and Greta mingle, both can't believe Stefano went to so much trouble to make all these people believe Hope is Gina. Eric and Greta look at the picture of Gina, Greta doesn't know if it is of her mother or of Hope. She says that Stefano's power scares her, what if Bo can't bring Stefano down and Hope decides to stay as Princess Gina? Eric says that will never happen because Bo has the power of love on his side, the love Bo and Hope share is too powerful. He says that his mom and John's love has survived everything Stefano has thrown at them, so he's positive that Bo and Hope will come out on top. Later, Eric warns Greta that Stefano is here. Eric and Gina face Stefano, who is stunned to see them! Stefano says hello to them and asks what in the world they are doing here? Greta says the party is in honor of her mother, so she is here out of respect for her.

At the party, Eric and Greta run into Kurt and aks why he is there. He tells them that he has come with his mothe (PG) and Eric insissts on meeting her. They meet and talk a bit. Then Greta's old school friend Nathan comes by. (IMO he's very ugly and kind of old looking.)Eric makes a comment about Nathan, which he didn't seem to appreciate very much, and tells Eric that he used to have a crush on her and he hasn't been with other women waiting for Greta. Eric doesn't seem to like this. Nathan asks Greta if she wants to dance. She turns to Eric and asks if he would mind, before he can reply Nathan takes her hand and answers for him. Eric is talking to Doug, Julie and Bo, as Bo walks away Eric is looking at Greta. Doug comments that he saw that a mile away. Eric asks what, and Doug replies "Cut it" along with Julie.(though they never show the two dancing agian). Eric and Greta are once again standing together talking to Greta. They talk about Gina again and comment on the 'plan', soon after Hope walks in as PG.

Eric and Greta are still at the party. Greta is feeling uncomfortable pretending that Hope is her mother. Eric tells her Bo wouldn't have asked if it wasn't important. She tells him that she knows. Greta talks with Hope as if she were her daughter. Nathan later brings Greta a glass of Champain, she tells him that she shouldn't drink it on an empty stomach. He tells he knows exactly what she wants, caviar with cheese, and goes to get it. (You can tell that Eric hates Nathan) Eric and Greta talk about Gina, Hope and stuff like that. When Nathan comes back Greta tells him that she's not hungry, and when she refuses Nathan asks for a dance, before Greta can reply Eric cuts in and says that their song is playing, and leads Greta to the dance floor, while Nathan watches them leave. While dancing Eric (a worried looking Eric IMO) asks Greta if she's going to stay in Paris. She talks about how this isn't the lifestyle for her and looks up at him and says that she wants to go back to Salem. He smiles and the two dance closer together.

September 28, 1999

Greta dances with Eric. Eric tells her that Nathan hasn't stopped staring at her all night. Greta says that she and Nathan played Romeo and Juliet at the academy in Paris. Eric says he thought she played Juliet at the school in New Orleans? Greta tells him that she played it twice. They talk about Romeo and Juliet, Eric says he prefers happily ever after endings. Greta says that some stories don't end happily, like her mother's for instance. Eric tells Greta that after Bo is done with Stefano, he will never hurt her again. Later, Greta goes over to Princess Gina (remember, she doesn't know it's really her mother because of that black veil covering her face) and asks if she may speak with her. Gina says yes and asks Greta to sit next to her. Greta asks her why she is so certain this woman who claims she is Gina isn't her mother?

September 29, 1999

In Paris at the ball, Nathan asks Eric for a moment of his time. Nathan asks Eric how close he and Greta are? Eric asks Nate why he should discuss his relationship with a complete stranger? Nathan says he's not a stranger to Greta, in fact he's been thinking about her for years because she was his first love. Nathan asks Eric if he has forgotten his first love? Eric thinks about Nicole, and tells him no, but it is getting easier. Nathan asks if it is because of Greta? Eric tells Nathan that Greta is beautiful, and intelligent, and he enjoys her company. Nathan thought she would be married by now. Eric tells Nathan that Greta was recently burned in an accident and her life is just beginning again. Nathan thinks that must be why nobody saw Greta or Gina for awhile, Gina was caring for her daughter.

In the foyer, Greta asks Gina, who she thinks is Kurt's mother, why she doesn't believe the woman in the other room is Princess Gina? Gina doesn't understand why Greta is even asking her such questions. Gina tells her that she is Gina's daughter and knows her better than anyone. She apologizes if she is wrong by questioning her. Greta remembers Eric telling her that they have to make Bo's plan work, so Greta says of course that woman is her mother. Gina asks her when the last time she saw her mother was? Greta admits that it has been years. Gina asks why so long? Greta tells Gina that she was in a terrible accident and was badly burned, it took her years to recover. Gina tells her "darling" how sorry she is and begins to weep. Greta asks why she called her "my darling," and why she is responding like this? Gina apologizes and says the accident saddens her. Gina asks how it happened? Greta tells her about the explosion, but says she is fine now. Gina tells her that she truly is her mother's daughter. Greta says people keep telling her that, but she thinks they are flattering her. She tells Gina that her mother was so full of like and it is hard to think that she's . . . . Gina asks her what she was going to say? Greta says that she was going to say here tonight, she thought she'd never see her again. Gina asks why she would think that? Greta says because of her accident, she was ashamed how she looked so she hid in the Bayou in Louisianan, and her mother went back to Europe. Greta questions "Elsa" about her mother, and if she remembers her when she was little? Gina says she remembers her very well, and asks Greta if she remembers her? Greta says there is something familiar about her, and if she could see her eyes she would remember her. Gina damns Stefano for doing this to her daughter, and then tells Greta that she may look into her eyes. Greta begins to lift Gina's veil, but Stefano shows up and asks what she is doing? Greta stops and says she was just trying to help the countess. Stefano asks the countess where her son is? Gina says she does not know, she has just been getting to know Greta. Stefano asks the countess to please excuse them, he wants to show Greta the gardens. Gina reluctantly says yes of course, but hugs Greta before she leaves. Out in the gardens, Stefano asks Greta how she could be so careless, she almost gave Hope away! Greta tells him that he wouldn't want to everyone to find out that he turned Hope into Gina, but Stefano says he had nothing to do with that. Greta says that is not what Bo believes, Bo believes he turned her into Gina on purpose! As they argue, Gina spies on them. Gina lifts her veil to get a better look, and Greta and Stefano hear her rustling in the bushes. Stefano checks things out, but finds nothing. He then tells Greta that he can't believe she believes Bo instead of him, the one who took care of her and never lied to her. Greta says he has done nothing but lie to him. Gina listens closely as Greta accuses Stefano of making Hope Williams into his latest pawn, his Gina pawn. Stefano becomes fed up and says he did nothing to Hope. Greta tells Stefano that he possessed her with Gina's spirit, but Stefano says she was the one who put the idea into Hope's head at Maison Blanche. Gina hears Stefano tells Greta that her comment that Hope looked like her mother is what possessed her to come to Europe and live as Princess Gina. Gina remembers back to Maison Blanche when Stefano told her that Rolfe was going to cure her depression, and later she heard Stefano telling Rolfe to get Hope ready for the procedure. Greta asks Stefano if Hope wasn't his creation, why didn't he tell people Princess Gina died? Stefano says what Hope does is none of his concern, who is he to ruin her fun? Greta refuses to be his lies and says she knows he turned Hope into her mother to carry out her mother's work, whatever it was, and promises Stefano that she will not stop until she find out what he really did to her mother. Greta walks away from Stefano and right into Eric, who asks what is going on.

September 30, 1999

Eric asks Greta if Stefano is bothering her? Stefano claims they were just engaging in some party chatter, but Greta says she was accusing Stefano of destroying her mother's life. Greta tells Stefano that she will hate him for the rest of her life for what he did to her. Stefano asks where all this anger is coming from? Greta says she has a right to be angry, he played God with her mother's life and took the only man she ever loved away from her, which caused her to go insane and die. Stefano says that is a big list of things she's attributed to him. Eric says Greta hasn't even scratched the top of the list and says everything is coming to an end tonight! Stefano asks what exactly he is going to do to him tonight? Eric says he does not owe him an explanation, and he warns Stefano to stay away from Greta. Stefano asks Eric if he has become Greta's guardian and protector? Eric says Greta doesn't need a guardian, but he will protect her. Stefano looks over and sees Nathan step out of the bushes. Stefano decides to leave, and Nathan tells Greta that someone is going to propose a toast to her mother. Greta thanks him and says she will be in shortly. Nathan leaves, and Eric asks Greta about Nathan. Greta says Nathan had a crush on her and probably just wants to ask her out. Eric says the guy would marry her if he could! Greta doubts that and tells Eric to stop worrying about Nathan and his crush. Eric thinks the guy is obsessed with her, which Greta thinks is funny. Eric says he doesn't like when people try to force themselves into someone's life. Greta realizes that Eric doesn't like the idea of her going out with Nathan. Eric says this isn't about him being jealous, it is about Nathan being presumptuous that the two of them can pick up where they left off. Eric says the guy was asking a lot of annoying and personal questions. When Greta asks "like what?" Eric says "Like if we were an item." Greta smiles and asks Eric what he told him, did he say they were? Eric is at a loss for words and asks Greta if they are an item? Greta asks what he thinks? Eric doesn't now, but says if they were an item, would he . . . . . Greta asks "would you do what?" Eric says "Would I do this" and then leans in to kiss her.
