Artistically conjured from the drawing boards and numerous screwed-up paper balls by Michael and Yin, this logo will hopefully be used on future publications and SMA products Please give us some feedback on what you think of it. We would also like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for coming to the SMA dinner, and maybe I’ll see you around in our future functions J Jeff (II Dentistry) Gearing Up – SMA Camp 1999 When: July 2nd – 4th 1999 Where: Bickley Outdoor Recreation Camp in Orange Grove. President’s Note Dear SMAers,
There is an opportunity for those who selected to join the CMDF mailing list to be involved in a national email forum of medical and dental students. It involves joining a list of students Australia-wide who are connected via email. Each student can email a central address which forwards the mail to all on the list. This provides a forum/table where we can encourage each other, learn more about our brothers and sisters in other states and discuss difficult issues relevant to us (eg. they are currently discussing "harm minimalisation"). I have personally joined the list and have had the pleasure of introducing the rest of Oz to SMA J . It’s been an interesting ride so far. If you want to join the forum and have indicated on the contact list (at the Fresher’s Welcome) that you wanted to be involved with CMDF, just email Rod Stevenson at: lukes@medeserv.com.au. let him know who you are and that you would like to join. If you did not tick yes under CMDF (you can still join) or just want to find out more feel free to ask me kimchong@tartarus and we’ll provide you with the details.
Michael Chong (V) Prayer requests to Jill Wyatt at jwyatt@tartarus..\..\..\sma\.uwa.edu.auLong ago....in a suburb far far away- well not so far if you actually knew where you were going - three Perth aliens (well two Albanyites and a QLDer) journeyed to the Thompson household for the Fresher welcome. Upon arrival the travellers were astonished at the number of medical....oh yeah AND dental students- sound familiar Mike?-which had invaded the host's private quarters. The night went off with an intergalactic explosion; the major HIGHLIGHT, despite desperate efforts to silence them, being the two speakers: Cynthia and Siva-(what was that? the ghost train of Floreat?!!). All first years were undoubtedly uplifted to hear from Cynthia of the strong Christian support in the workplace-from both patients and doctors, and the importance of being a witness to the unsaved around you. We were also encouraged to hear Siva's words that even when times are tough, we know that in God's strength-and His alone-that we'll get through. Also to know that we have help at hand with the upper year SMAers - THANKS!!!! This statement of generosity was then supported with Tony's amazing book giveaway – judging by the free-for all frenzy-they were definitely appreciated!!! First years also want to thank all you guys for providing such a Michael Thompson's house, hospitality and most definitely his POOL TABLE-were very much appreciated by all the SMAers and we want to thank him for his patience with regards to the departure of the last guests; rumours have been heard that he is planning on installing magnets into both the pockets and balls to ensure his guest leave before 1am next time. How long was that last pool game again -- 40 minutes????? I'm sure all first years are now More settled into SMA and are keen to get involved to know Christ and make Him known this year!!!

First and Second Year Meetings There's lots to report from our 'on campus' meetings. The year got off to a great start with about 25 people turning out for our first meeting (including a few upper years). It's been really encouraging seeing such an enthusiastic group of freshers settling into the group. The meetings themselves have involved a variety of items. The year began on a casual note with a few icebreaker games getting things rolling. Since then however we've been making good ground (slow but steady) into the book of Philippians, and have begun planning for an 'on campus' evangelistic meeting. We are optimistic about the Paul reminds us that we are partners in the gospel. As Christians this is the real basis for our relationships. Even though we rarely see each other, and may be in different denominations, we can rejoice that all Christians are actually on the same side - in partnership. Daniel Claughton (II)
In response to the success of the 3rd year Easter presentation last year, we’ve decided to ‘steal’ such a brilliant idea of delivering a message about Easter in lectures and extend this to the 1st – 5th years this year. We thought that through this Just before the Easter long
The event went really well in all years. I just want to take this opportunity to thank all the brave people in each year – Amanda (1st year), Jeff (2nd year), James and everyone who wore a bunny hat (3rd year), Siva (3rd year dentistry), Meilyn and Nerissa (4th year) and of course our big Pres Mike (5th year). Well done guys!!! J Tanya Yuen (V) |
