Trying to change the subject with 'N Sync's devilishly handsome Chris Kirkpatrick while he rambles on and one about how much he loves Mexico is virtually impossible. "I am a really big fan of anything Mexican because I think that is where my Spanish heritage is from," says the 27-year-old singer, who joins compadres Justin Timberlake, Joey Fatone, JC Chasez, and Lance Bass on their 1998 self titled debut album, which includes the hit "God Must Have Spent A Little More Time On You." "I just love going there."
And fortunately, since helping form this awesome group of talented babes back in 1996, this brow-eyed crooner, who is originally form Clarion, Pennsylvania, has been able to hit the streets of Mexico a quite few times. "[One time], we went to Acapulco to do a show there and I was in heaven," Chris reminisces. Heaven, because as Chris also lets BOP in on, Mexico has some of the best taco stands south of the North Pole! "I would die for Mexican food," he raves, practically wiping the saliva from his mouth. "When we were there, everybody wanted to go to these really fancy, shmancy Mexican restaurants, but I wanted to go to these dirt holes and get the coolest tacos that they make. I'm an animal, what can I say?"
Let's see, what can you say to Chris-in Spanish, that is. "Not a lot," he confesses. "I'm not fluent, but I studied it for five years. My mom used to speak it when I was little, so I thought it was going to be an easy credit to get in school]. So when somebody starts rattling off, I can understand a little bit."
While Chris can at least order a taco or enchilada is Espanol with the limited vocab he's acquired over the years by visiting Spanish-speaking lands, there's one language this linguist would like to learn even more: the language of love. "When women speak French, I am just like in awe," he melts. "I just want them to keep repeating it. I don't care [what they say]. Tell me I am a jerk again, I don't care, just say it in French."
Ay carumba! That Chris is definitely one crazy guy. Oops, we mean un chico loco!
