Catwoman
Julie Newmar
Julie Newmar was the first Catwoman to appear in the series and according to many people she played the part best (mostly because of how she filled the costume). Newmar was able to learn acting and dance because her mother was in Zeigfeld Follies. When asked how she was picked for the part she said, "My brother was going to Harvard, and I had a penthouse in New York City. He was down there with six or seven friends; we were all just hanging out. It was a Saturday morning when the call came through [asking] me if I wanted to play in Batman. I said, "John, what's Batman?" He just lept off the couch and said, "Batman! It's the most popular show at Harvard! We all quit between four and five and watch the show! What's up?" I said, "Well, I'm the Catwoman."
She really hadn't any idea about what Catwoman should be like, she didn't have any time to do any research before she went by plane to the set. Newmar successfully made the character what she thought the villain should be like. Her first film was Just for You (1952). She was very good at making it seem as though there was something going on between Batman and her. Since Batman she has been in many movies which include Mackenna's Gold (1969), Oblivion (1994), and most recently Oblivion 2: Backlash (1996). She has had appearances in The Phil Silvers Show (1958), Bewitched (1964), Beverly Hillbillies (1966), F-Troop (1966), and Star Trek (1967).
