So, you've probably guessed by now that I thrive on creating something out of nothing and look forward to creative challenges. My husband, Carl, says I'm the only person he knows that can create a "room" from a box full of thrift store junk. Having been poor all my life, I guess, has been my teacher. Very little excites me more than an empty canvas or a simple "what if ?" for a new screenplay. I love making micro budget videos and films. I think it forces me to be more creative. I really don't know what I'd do if someone gave me millions to direct something. Maybe I'd make a hundred different films? Believing devoutly in the future of low budget, independent films, I joined ifp/west (independent feature projects west) a year ago. My ideal life would be to write and direct feature films for the video or television market, and live in both Hollywood and Toronto (but not at the same time, of course).
Although Rick is almost totally self taught (I showed him some basic chords on my classical guitar when he was eleven), he was a child prodigy at the age of six when he could mysteriously play Beethoven's "Fur Elise" and "Moonlight Sonata", two handed even, on our old, antique piano. He was one of the few children accepted into the Columbia Conservatory at The University of Toronto to study piano, but soon tired of the repetition of playing scales. Besides, he claimed his piano teacher hit his fingers with a yard stick!
