When Alasdair began hosting You Can't Do That On Television in 1985,
this interview appeared in 16 Magazine. It was entitled:

ALASDAIR GILLIS TELLS ALL!

Hi Alasdair. Could you start out by telling us how to pronounce your first name?

It's really simple. "Alice-dare."

How does it feel to be the new host of your own show?

Great! I'm really excited about it, although I was a bit nervous in the beginning - but everyone's being really nice.

Can you tell us a little about You Can't Do That On Television?

Well, there are usually about five or six kids and two adults in the show, and what we all do is poke fun at issues that are really important to teens and pre-teens. Each show has one basic theme, and we cover such topics as fashion, fitness, and even drugs.

Would you fill us in on your personal stats?

Sure! I'm 14 - my birthday was just last month, on April 6th - and I was born in Ottawa, Canada where I still live with my family. I'm about 5' 1", and I have dark brown hair and brown eyes.

Who's in your family?

My dad Alan Gillis - but he doesn't live with us - my mom, Joy McDonelo and my older brother Duncan who, by the way, is always playing the bagpipes! He's pretty good at it too!

Any pets?

No, I'm allergic to certain animals. I've had a few goldfish, but that's it.

Do you enjoy reading

I don't really read much, only Beatles books - I really like them a lot. In fact, a lot of the music I listen to is the older stuff from the late '60s and early '70s.

What do you like doing in your spare time?

All sorts of different things like skiing, playing tennis, going to the movies - sometimes just being with my friends.

What types of girls do you like?

Someone with a good sense of humor, who's fun to be with. I hate snobby people who are always full of themselves!

What quality do you like best about yourself?

My ability to make people laugh.
