Noteable Artwork
Edvard Munch
Vampire. 1893.
Oil on canvas, 100 x 110 cm
private collection
What gets me about this artist is his style of painting. He made the physical appearance of the painting part of the actual painting. He would finish a piece, and leave it outside for weeks, exposed to the elements, heat, rain, etc. Or he would slash at the painting and create gashes in the paint, in the canvas, which for some reason has always struck a cord with me. It is very primal and it's a feeling way deep down in your gut, something very intense and something i've always, always felt. And seeing something where the anger and the emotion is so evident, i can't just leave that alone. Munch is probably my favorite artist to date.

I wanted to put both of these pictures up to show how women were viewed back then. The male portrays the Judith as young and beautiful & the maid as old and ugly, they are prissy girls who think this is gross, they stand back so as not to get dirty...The female artist portrays Judith as a pissed off woman who digs right in, the servant is helping hold him down, they are not afraid. Even back then this was revolutionary for a woman to create such a piece of artwork, esp. since female artists were few & far between.

Quentin Blake
1932-
Quentin Blake did a great deal of the artistry for many of Roald Dahl's books. Above is one of the covers for "The BFG." (big friendly giant...read it, it's excellent!)
