The 80s

Well, guess what you'll find here. Duh. Here are some classic Ed pics from the 80s.

demands So here's Ed as John Glenn in THE RIGHT STUFF, possibly the most underrated motion picture ever made. Yes, it is a really long movie (two tapes worth), and (at least to me) the Chuck Yeager stuff gets tiresome. But it's a great chronicle of the early days of the space program as well as the efforts put forth by Yeager (who, because he wasn't a "college boy," apparently wasn't good enough for NASA) in the Air Force. In this scene Ed is lobbying for the right to be a "pilot" rather than just a passenger in the Mercury capsule.
Here's Ed/John Glenn going off at the press conference announcing the choices for astronauts. Boy, he sure knew how to talk and play the presses. up front
talkin' to Annie So here's Ed talking to his wife on the phone. Lyndon Johnson is basically torturing Annie, who doesn't want to go on television because she stutters. Of course he's a media hog and lusts for exposure. Here Ed comforts his wife and basically says, "Screw Johnson!" This is a really cool scene that makes John Glenn look like such a great guy.
Finally here's Ed crammed into his rocket. You can't really see much in this picture, but I guess that's the effect they were looking for. I mean, these space capsules were really really cramped. Thanks to Marina for all of these pics from THE RIGHT STUFF except for the press conference shot, which was from...somewhere else that I can't remember. THE RIGHT STUFF was a Warner Brothers production, so these pics belong to them (I guess). outer space
To Kill a Priest Here's Ed from TO KILL A PRIEST, where he plays Stefan, the sort-of-tortured Polish cop who is trying to nail Christopher Lambert, the priest who's helping to lead the Solidarity movement. Nice autograph, huh? I need some sort of segue from THE RIGHT STUFF to this movie, but I can't think of one offhand. Oh well. How about in both of these movies, Ed plays a really earnest, hard-working family man? Whatever.
