Storyline #2: Aunt Sarah in a Can
It seems James's "pet" cow died back on the farm in Wisconsin, and his mom thought it best to send James the ashes to remember Aunt Clara by. However, due to an unforseen mishap, (See Plotline #3) Mike looses the ashes of the creamated cow. When Mike proposes to hold a wake for the dearly departed beauvine, James approves but is heartbroken once again when Mike misses the service to go on a date with Ms. Klum. After the dumping, Mike returns to the office and makes up with James.
Storyline #3: Hot in the Office
Well, we finally learn where Carter's desk is. He is located in the office across from Paul's. The way we discover this is the fact that Paul and Carter complain about the lack of air conditioning. Carter chips in (Paul doesn't) and Paul gets a mondo-powerful fan for his office, gipping (sp?) Carter out of $250 by only getting him one of those hand held twister-things. When the fan is turned up too high, Mike and Carter get to do a "Last of the Mohicans" bit and Nikki ends up accidentally spilling the ashes into the blowing fan, covering Mike with Aunt Sarah. Carter exacts his revenge on Paul by tipping off the Mayor as to who is stealing the Mayor's candy.
Overall, a mediocre episode. Mike's troubles with Heidi were incomplete. She forgave him too quick and them dumped him even too quicker. There was no development because they had to put in all the supermodel jokes. Very underdeveloped, and not too funny. For those disapointed about not seeing Heidi again, don't worry. She returns, along w/ Tracey Pollan, Paula Marshall, Ashley (Carla Gugino), and a host of former ex-flames on the October 20th episode.
As for this episode, the secondary storylines raise the episode from forgettable to merely okay. The "Last of the Mohicans" reference wasn't as slick as "Jerry Maguire" from 2 weeks ago or even the NYPD Blue bit last year. (By far, the best parody on the show.) But the interaction between Paul and Carter was fun. And it wouldn't be a complete show without James mentioning Wisconsin. (I think we get it by now.) The cow angle was new though, and they get style points for any cremated animal.
