John Doe

Characters

John Doe [Dominic Purcell]
John Doe’s first memory is waking up in a mysterious clearing on an island off the coast of Seattle. How he got there, who he is or the meaning of the strange mark on his shoulder are questions he can’t even begin to fathom. His fears, his likes, his dislikes, his favorite color? More enigmas he can’t answer. But it’s not what he doesn’t know that makes Doe so unique it’s what he does know.

Doe has the capacity to know every piece of information available in the world, from the ingredients in a box of Apple Jacks to the mating rituals of a quaggas zebra. And no one’s more surprised or troubled by the things in his head than he is. That’s not to say knowing everything isn’t without its perks – it can come in quite handy when playing the ponies or dabbling in the stock market. As Doe traverses on this desperate search to recover his past, he slowly builds a present - with a home, an assistant and friends. And the curse of having the world’s knowledge in his brain is made a little easier when he discovers he can use it to help others.

Karen Kowalski [Sprague Grayden]
A whip smart, sharp-tongued art student who talks her way into being Doe’s ‘assistant’; a job which mainly entails trying to figure out who-the-Shanghai her boss is. Determined to do her job right, she invests her energy-to-spare in helping Doe craft a life and identity for himself. Her breezy demeanor is a practiced shield to cover the difficult life she’s led after being orphaned as a child. She and Doe share a kinship over their unknown origins, but unlike Doe she has no desire to recover any part of her troubling past, including the identity of her parents.

Frank Hayes [John Marshall Jones]
A devoted father and seasoned detective who’s seen most of what the city of Seattle can throw at a person. Yet he’s never come across the likes of John Doe. Reluctant at first to accept his help, Hayes begrudgingly grows to trust Doe’s bizarre outbursts of facts and theories. They form a tentative bond, but Hayes never forgets there must be more to the mysterious Doe than he’s sharing.

Lt. Jamie Avery [Jayne Brook]
A second generation police officer, following in her late father’s footsteps. Recently promoted to Lieutenant, she finds the onerous task of giving orders to long-time friend Hayes made even more complicated by the exasperating presence of John Doe. Although she prefers to toe the company line, she can’t deny the results Doe’s special gifts bring to her tougher cases.

Digger [William Forsythe]
Just ‘Digger’. Don’t ask. An anti-establishment sage with a checkered past that seems to have straddled both sides of the law. He’s proprietor of The Sea, a local watering-hole where Doe has scored a regular gig as piano man. And since the Sea is also located beneath Doe’s posh loft, Doe and he get plenty of time to match bartending wits and elusive pasts.
