    Up Close and Personal...

The "T" -- T-Boz nee Tionne Watkins, originally from Des Moines -- was working as a manicurist at Escape Hair Salon in Atlanta, where it turns out the hairstylist for a singer Pebbles worked. Pebbles was married to L.A. Reid, cofounder of LaFace, and T-Boz overheard that she was holding auditions for a hip hop act. T-Boz brought along the "L" -- Left Eye (Lisa Lopes) who had fled family problems in Philadelphia and moved to Atlanta. The two had originally been brought together for a tri formed by another young lady. Well, the two of them worked well together, however, , Rozonda Thomas was a dancer for an L.A. Reid and Babyface act Damian Dame. And she did fit, except for TLR ? Something wasn't quite right. They needed a "C". So Rozonda became "Chilli" and it was just right for her spicy personality and looks.
