GRADES
Grades will be obtained through four distinct forms
of assessment. Each will play a role in final calculations according to
the chart below:
Journal/Portfolio...............................30%
Both journals and video portfolios will be graded according
to performance-based Assessment scorecards. Journals will be used to record
answers to written assignments and to record impressions, conclusions,
and personal learning objectives. They will be written every day and will
be assessed according to the criteria located within the appropriate scorecard.
Porfolio assessment will be completed in a similar manner except that students
may pick out two of be their two best works from their portfolios to submit
to for final grading against its own assessment criteria.
Performance Practicum......................20%
You will receive credit for demonstrating your ability to operate video equipment per operator's handbooks and/or written instructions handed out in class. Assessment will be in the form of points awarded for demonstrating your abilities to operate the equipment according to the competency checklist.
Participation.......................................30%
Includes all group projects, in-class, and SWEEPS activities. Assessment will be points awarded each week, based on teacher's perceptions of the amount of contribution to class discussions, independent work on class assignments, general classroom behavior, and team-building activities with fellow classmates.
Tests/quizzes.......................................20%
Includes tests, quizzes, and final exam. These will measure attainment of cognitive objectives, based on the study blueprint handed out at the beginning of the school session.
As most work is done in class, attendance is extremely important, just as it is in a real-world work environment. All work must be made up in order to receive any credit. Deductions will be made for late work.
Throughout the session, you will be receiving a progress report that incorporates all the above. It will be in the format of a "performance review" similar to that which adults receive in their jobs.
