Listened to a Fibber & Molly Christmas show where Fibber went to the hardward store and bought enough stuff to write "Merry Christmas" on the house - except the "mas" had to go on the side. One of the best Christmas programs of any genre. Thank goodness radio still exists somewhere and we still have Fibber and Molly. And for sites like this one.

I grew up listening to "Fibber McGee and Molly" (tho' "Waxy" Wilcox announced it as "Molly Mcgee and Fibber" with a lot of tittering in the background one night) over an floor-model Philco every Tuesday night. I had acquired many tapes of the show. I ordered Stumpf's book "Heavenly Days" and then called him to see if he knew Jim Jordan's phone number. He said it was in the Beverly Hills phone book, so I got it from Information. I spoke on the phone with Jim twice, once just shortly before his death from the fall. He was a good man. I also spoke on the phone with Mel Blanc when he was in his 80's -- he said that he was on the F M & M show, and gave me the name and voice of that character, but I didn't remember it. I`m not real big on TV either, I started listening to "When radio was" about a year or so ago and it`s really got me hooked. I buy some apes occassionally, and follow things like this on the internet. Nothing like working in my garage listening to Fibber screw up again. collected a lot of tapes a few years ago none recently but my favorite was always fibber mcgee and molly . my daugter is in college now but when she was young we would listen to shows in her room at night before she went to bed . she would memorize the li nes especially teenys . i wrote to jim jordan about 10 years ago and he sent me an autographed picture which in on my rec room wall of fame im very proud of it . not long after he passed on and i believe he is up there in wistful vista heaven with molly , oc the mayor , the old timer . mrs uppington , and harlow wilcox .

I am thirty years old and remember my hometown radio station (WMCL) playing old Fibber McGee & Molly shows when I was a kid. (Eric's Note: Apart from the pic that's now on my F&M page, there's a few nice pictures of the Jordans in Jim Harmon's classic "The Great Radio Comedians", if you can find a copy. A more recent book with a Fibber and Molly picture is Leonard Maltin's The Great American Broadcast". I have another pic scan of them c. 1950 which will be up soon.)

I have never traded shows before. What is the procedure? Love your site.

(Eric's Note: Well, in a nutshell, after you and your trading partner trade lists of your programs, you each choose (usually) 10 hours from the other's list and let 'em know what you want. Then you just dub off copies of those shows and send them to our trading partner, and s/he does the same with your requests. Those are the basics, although different traders have other requests (types of tapes, noise reduction, etc.), so don't be afraid to ask. Also, if you have a proper home tape deck, it's best to use it...the two-tape boomboxes aren't exactly the best deck for the job.

(Having said all of that, keep in mind that it's a great way to increase your OTR collection in a hurry. I've doubled my collection since I started trading, and run into a lot of nice people in the process. There are a lot of articles for the beginning collector/trader at Jerry Haendiges' OTR pages. Good luck and good trading)
