Imagine a small, remote island peppered with mountains and surrounded by the deep blue sea, a tiny speck of land, stuck in time and a population used to things as they are and not eager to change. Imagine a devil-may-care barnstorming pilot with a mysterious past, named CLAY (DEAN CAIN - 'The New Adventures of Superman'), crash landing his biplane into the midst of tranquillity, sending the inhabitants into a tailspin.
Twelve year old GABRIEL (KRISTIAN DE LA OSA - 'Madeleine'), troubled by his mother's imminent marriage to prosperous farmer, FRANK (MIGUEL SANDOVAL - 'Clear and Present Danger'), looks to Clay as a father figure. Only after Gabriel risks his life saving the aircraft from a tremendous hurricane does Clay open up to him. As a reward for the boy's heroic effort, Clay reveals his world and its mysteries which fill Gabriel's head with wonder.
While Clay teaches Gabriel principles of flying, romance begins to sparkle betwen Clay and MERCEDES (TALISA SOTO - 'Don Juan De Marco', 'Living Daylights'), Gabriel's mother. This creates a triangle of complicated emotions as it interferes with Frank's plan to marry Mercedes and become Gabriel's guardian.
The entire village turns out to witness Clay's first dare-devil attempt to fly away from the island, but he crashes spectacularly and is humiliated and badly hurt, while his plane is nearly destroyed. As he recuperates Clay only wants to hide from his misery and he finds shelter in a dark, smoky cantina. It is here that the roles of surrogate father and son are switched as Gabriel inspires the crestfallen Clay to confront his lonely life and rise to the next challenge. At the same time Mercedes has to decide where her future lies. Is she in love with the dependable Frank or the mysterious Clay?
As the plane is rebuilt there is adventure, romance and magic in this story about love and family.
