JANUARY 1999

OUTLAWZ OUTTA HERE The latest edition of the Source magazine has an advert promoting a spring Outlawz album under Rap-A-Lot Records, confirming their departure from Death Row. At least there albums gonna be released at last, it's just a shame it won't be under the Row where they've lived for the past few years! Nearly all of the original artists have left the Row now. Let's just hope their newer talents can hold it together!!! Props go out to Khris D. for the early update.

INSIDE "NOT" OUT So the 26th has been and gone and I've so far seen no sign of Inside Out's release at all. Like I reported last time around though, I'm sure it'll drop later this year so let's get bac' to waiting! If you got any inside information on it's release or you got any tracks from it hollar at me, cuz I'm gettin' sic' waitin' fo it to drop!

Take a listen to this bomb bay O.F.T.B. track called Hot One. They come off harder than ever in it, an I gotta say it's one of the best songs I've ever heard by 'em! Play it right away if you haven't heard or got it yet. In case your wondering it was included on the Murder Was The Case soundtrack but only the tape version. Speaking of Murder Was The Case, does anybody know the name of the track 2Pac made and got paid for, which never got included???

Be on tha lookout for a Snoop's Greatest Hits album getting ready to drop on the 23rd of February under Death Row/Priority Records (though a delay is more than likely). I hope they put on a few unreleased tracks from his Doggystyle dayz or something otherwise it ain't gonna be that hot! A poster for it was seen back in November in a Canadian music store, so at least we know it's fo real!

Here'z the first batch of requests goin' out to all y'all that got at me on it. First off we got Hit 'Em Up 2 to bump to by 2Pac and the Outlawz. I'm sure most of you will have heard this next request by now by Y.G.D. Tha Top Dogg called Going Back To Cali, but here it is for those who haven't. Finally here's both of the exceptional 2Pac tracks from the Above The Rim CD single. Take time out to play Pain which is one of my all time favourite 2Pac songs, before checking out Loyal To The Game which is all good too! In case you don't have it, the CD also has a dope Regulate remix included on it. It's kinda hard to find it, but make sure to buy it if you come across it! I woulda named all y'all who made these requests but time was on my back. Remember if you got a request get it to me an I'll try my best to make it happen.

Take a trip to Tupachq.com for a huge amount of 2Pac information and audio, including G2 and MP3z. I found this page a couple of days ago and it looks fairly new, but it's also off tha hook. Go peep it! (It may be down right now due to it's popularity but keep checking bac' till you get in).

THE WILD WILD WEST First off I wanna set y'all straight on my previous update on the closure of Death Row. It looks like the future is much brighter than it first looked. Dre apparently didn't accept Suge's offer, which has left the company with him. I really doubt that he'll sell to anybody else, so it's more likely he'll keep his head up an take the Row through these rough times, into better. Let's just watch what happens!

Sorry about the delay for the chains page, but it's up and running now for y'all to look around, and order from. I hope there's still a few No Limit fans around out there because I've added a NL chain section and a whole lotta shirts! Go take a look around by clicking right here and see what'll suit you and your budget! Jus' so ya know, I'm only acting as a advertiser so I don't deal with the sales. The pages consist of a number of different people's merchandise, so make sure you mail the right person, with the right order number if you want something. I've added a permanent link to it through my homepage, so you won't have to find this update to access it in the future. I hope y'all find something' you like!

I got my copy of "Westside Riderz vol.1" through a little while ago, an I gotta say that I'm not disappointed! The whole album is dope, not to mention the full colour calendar which is plain cavi! Remember you can still purchase a copy at cdnow.com if you can't find it elsewhere. Here'z a few tracks to check out from it. First off you gotta hear Protect your neckline by 3x Krazy. I luv this hit, especially that off tha hook beat! Next up check out Swoop G's California which is nuthin' but tight. Finally don't forget to play Jack Move by Daz and the Outlawz which is all good. Major props go out to Mobstyle Muzik and their achievements... bring on volume 2!!!

It's still not clear whether the Outlawz have left the Row for Rap-A-Lot Records yet, or if their even going to. They've made a number of appearances which indicates the move, but there's been no mention of their "Retribution" album coming out under R-A-L, unlike many others upcoming. You don't have to worry though cuz you know the Outlawz are gonna keep bringin' the heat wherever they are! Speaking of the Outlawz did anybody notice anything strange about their Geto Boy appearance on the track "I don't fuck"? I got word from K-Dogg that it sounds like they say "Bout it bout it sound like 'Pac now a days, only switch it up they own way, y'all gay that's on everythang", a possible dis to No Limit. It's kinda hard for me to comment on this as I don't have the song. But if you think the same get at me.

The Krib still reports that Inside Out will be dropping on the 26th of this month. I don't wanna act down on it, but I really doubt if this'll happen. I'm believe it will drop sometime this year, just not yet. I heard that they've been waiting for Suge to get out before they release it. They can drop it with or without Suge's help, but I can see why they'd want to do that. There's no doubt the album is finished though. Click right here to peep an advert for the album's first single, Unconditional Love.

Three versions of the single for TQ's Westside came out a few days ago in the UK. The tape version included a real fly track featuring DJ Quik and a gang of other dope artists called My Melody - Westside Part II. One CD version contains two previously unreleased tracks called "Come See Me" and "Thugz women" which are pretty tight too, whilst the other included an appearance by Jay-O-Felony. Make sure to pick these up if you find them... also don't forget to visit the official TQ Homepage written in his album, which is kinda tight.

Go take a trip to my homie Aaron C's R&B All Stars web site to download a real tight 213 screensaver, which uses a sample of the 213 song "Friends". C's made a few changes over there, which has made his site look doper than ever. The screensaver is under his news and reviews section but make sure to take a good look around the rest while your there, before bouncing back here!

It seems that Soopafly is still on the Row after initial thoughts that he left for Mobstyle Muzik. Soopafly has gotta be the best artist still left with them, so it's real good he's chosen to stay. At one point believe it or not, he considered signing with Bad Boy Records! I guess that makes sense though, as he's kinda datin' lil' Kim!! Let's just hope his album comes out later this year.

I've received a number of mails to do with the deathrowrecords.net webpage. I just want to clear up that this page has been running since February '97, and I'd be very surprised to see it made into their official site. There's also a whole lotta other sites identical to it, with slightly different names like nightofthelivingdead.com, which is actually kinda strange too. That 4:03 time is still a little odd though!

I don't know if any of y'all noticed but when I was looking through "Tupac Shakur, by the editors of Vibe" in the store I noticed something a little different to the original publication. They've updated it with a few new pictures, including another painted memorial, and some new sections including Suge's story after the shooting and a review of the "R You Still Down?" album. Take a peep if you can. I don't think it's worth buying if you already have the original like I do though. Keep checking on it as another update by them seems very likely! Oh and speaking of books, if you haven't yet read Ronin Ro's "Have gun will travel", (the spectacular rise and fall of Death Row Records), get a copy as soon as you can, because it's pure dopeness!

DEATH ROW PENDENTS It seems that ever since I placed a picture of a Death Row chain on my homepage, y'all been hollaring at me to buy one. I've spent the last few days looking around, finding contacts and various chains an all, to put together a page with all of them included. I hope to have that ready in the next 2-3 days, so be on tha lookout. It's taken up a lot of time so far, so I gotta delay my update for a lill' while... which I'll try and bring for Monday now. In the meantime you can peep a lot of last years newz if you bounce to the bottom of the page and use the link. Come back soon for the chains though!

DOGG POUND "DOGG SHIT" Here'z what looks to be the official track listing for Tha Dogg Pound's second album, which has been renamed from "West Coast Aftershock" simply to "Dogg Shit"! Take a good look, cuz this albums gonna rock the whole West Coast and put Death Row back on top for sure!!! That is of course if none of those problems I earlier mentioned occur, an the Row keeps rollin'. If all goes well we can expect a mid March release date so let's hope that happens. Every one of the 21 tracks lined up sounds fly! A whole host of Death Row artists and Death Row affiliates are set to show up too, including 2Pac, Snoop Dogg, Nate Dogg, Soopafly, Bad Azz, Tray Deee, Michel'le and Jewell! Take a listen to this tight ass exclusive entitled Money, Carz, Bitchez by Daz and Kurupt which is set to be included. This track feels kinda empty right now as there's some long pauses between their raps, so expect the spaces to be filled by The Outlawz and Gonzoe for it's release. It's hella tight anyhow, so take a listen!

I just can't wait for this album to drop. It seems that every Death Row album suffers from delay now, so let's hope it doesn't happen again! If the Row can manage to keep it's head above water long enough to release this album, things would only get better for them. I'm sure this joint would turn Gold in record time. Jus' keep those eyes peeled!

WHAT THE F**K!!! I've been informed that Death Row will soon be officially closing it's doors and signing over all of it's licenses and contracts to Dr. Dre! I can't yet believe this is true, so stay with me while you read this. If it does turn out to be true though, then what'll be left? Death Row would be terminated as a company with no artists, money, producers or a C.E.O.! Which in simpler terms would mean the end of them! That's not all though. It get's worse. It seems that the California Court of Appeal ruled against Suge Knight's early release date from the California Men's Colony. His chance of getting a new probation violation hearing was also taken away, meaning he'll be there a lot longer than expected!! So how'd it happen??? Why might the Row go out like this??? I've been told that Suge appointed his main lawyer to take care of his shares in the company, which were subsequently given up to former business partner Dr. Dre... (whom Suge supposedly regretted losing all that time ago and is now hoping to pay Dre back). I honestly don't know if I can believe all this myself. I got this entire hook-up from The P-Funk Master who seems legit, so get at him, not me, if all this is untrue!?! Maybe a few facts have just been confused or something??? So what's he gonna do when he get's outta jail.. he ain't gonna have no fun, that's for sure! It seems real hard to believe that Suge would do that. Just sign over all he worked for to Dre, who I don't think he even likes! I gotta find confirmation of all this before I can take it in. If you've got some information on it, get at me. With possession of the legal shares and contracts, Dre, who now has more money and access to (now) former Death Row artists, could build a new empire and start where he left off. That's if he wanted to of course. I've always believed that Dre was like "Fuc' the Row, that shit's behind me" when he left it. It's hard to believe he'd take interest in the company, especially considering it's condition. Saying that though just take a look at the appearances on his upcoming "Chronic: 2000" album. It's set to have guests such as The D.O.C. (his original DR partner), Kurupt, Snoop and more. Though it's more likely nothing to do with this! So onto other news and the knock on effects. "The Long Beach Era" will be delayed until fall or even later after an initial March 31st release date. Warren G and G-Funk Records look set to take the project over, to release it solo. I was, and still am, anticipating this album to the fullest. I just hope it's not just another project that'll get forgotten about like the Outlawz album for example. The first video for it was, and I believe still is, for "Still Comin' At Ya" by Snoop, Warren G and Nate Dogg, Which I'm told is real tight. Filming apparently took place late last year by 213 who acted as G-Funk Corleones, creating a musical-Mafia-styled, video! 'Indo Smoke' by Warren G, Nate Dogg and Mista Grimm is set to be included on the line-up too, if and when the album's released. The story just goes on with this project. I'm told the album will be hit off with a movie of the same name "The Long Beach Era" to follow it!! So instead of an album following a movie, a movie will follow the album this time around. Making the main project and focus the actual album itself! The film (if real) looks set to tell the story of Warren G's come up in the music-world, right through Death Row and Def Jam. Warren G will star with a number of Death Row Inmates alongside him. Production of the movie began in December and is being directed by Albert Hughes. I hope all goes well if there for real because both projects sound real tight! In fact they sound almost too good to be true, so maybe y'all (myself included) should remember that. I've never said that about a newz update I've written before, but as I said before, this is comin' from one individual source, and it's sometimes hard to believe something without any confirmation. I've also been updated on the album being made to celebrate Suge's jail release fully titled "Suge'z Revenge - A New and Untouchable Compilation". Currently being worked upon, it seems that Daz may play a part, but Danny Boy and Michel'le are mainly the ones who've put it down so far. No one knows for sure what will happen to the Makaveli and Dillinger album which I earlier gave word of, as Daz hasn't claimed to release it on Mobstyle yet!! It may end up being a lost record..... Along with those others currently unreleased. You gotta understand that I'm just passing this information that I've received from an apparently legit, genuine source, on to y'all. It feels like I'm sitting here writing the final chapter in the Row's history and that's just plan mucked up! I'm not sure what to believe!?! At least one project might be saved though (once again, if this all is for real). Soopafly's Solo album entitled 'Like It Or Not' will supposedly be transferred, along with his contract, to Daz's Mobstyle Muzik. So what we're left with is a severally damaged company basically on life-support! Unless there's another company out there willing to pour a whole lotta cash back into the Row, this might well an truly be the end!!! This whole ordeal is strange and completely f****d up. I hope it's just another of those stupid ass rumours, but like I said... I'm just putting it down like I heard it. We've all seen the Row decline over the last year or two, but this happening??? Who knows??? Keep it locked right here an we'll soon see wassup once an for all!
