Snoop Dogg - Festival Hall, Melbourne Australia - Thursday December 3rd 1998
It had been hyped up for the past two months, Snoop Dogg and his NoLimit
homies were coming downunder to show Australia a slice of it's brand of hip
hop. Originally, the tour was supposed to include Snoop, Master P,
C-Murder, Silk the Shocker, Mia X, Kane & Abel, Tru, Fiend and
Mystikal....It was the support act who announced to the audience tha the
No Limit family didn't have faith in Australia as a crowd, and decided to
stay home....Snoop didn't want to cancel the tour, so he came alone....
It was 9:30pm when Snoop walked on stage puffin' on some indo.... he was
joined by Bad Azz (from 19th Street Records) and Techniec (one of the
artists on Doggystyle Records). Snoop started the show off with probably
the most popular song he's ever done, "Murder was the case". It really got
the crowd pumped up! Snoop spoke to the crowd a little after the first
track, got everyone to yell out his name, and then he did "Nuthin' but a "G" thang"
with Bad Azz droppin' a few rhymes too....I noticed that Snoop didn't
change the lyrics for this song at all, "DEATH ROW IS THE LABEL THAT PAYS ME".
"Yo Melbourne, how many of y'all love my homeboy Tupac?" The whole fuckin'
place went wild, everyone was yellin' and shit...."Well, if ya loveTupac,
let me see ya throw your "2's" up in the mother fuckin air"...everyone had
2 fingers up when Snoop busted straight into "2 Of Amerikaz Most
Wanted"....Techniec had a silk flag of Pac, and he pinned it up against the
DJ console. Snoop performed his vocals live, and had Pac's vocals played
from the recording. During the whole track, Snoop was yellin' out "Let me
hear y'all say Tupac"...and everyone would yell out his name...."Now let me
hear ya say, THUG LIFE!"...once again, everyone yelled out THUG
LIFE...."Let me hear ya say, WE LOVE YOU TUPAC!"...."REST IN PEACETUPAC"
The whole place was yellin' out Tupac...as soon as the track finished, Snoop
said, "How many of y'all love my homeboy Tupac like I love the nigga?"
Everyone went wild again...."Well, if y'all love Pac like I love him, why
the fuck aren't those "2's" up in the mother fuckin' air"....
After that, Snoop did a few No Limit tracks, although he didn't get much of
a reaction....I'm sure he lip synched a track or two in there....During one
point, Snoop lit up a joint on stage and finished it in about 3 big
puffs....someone from the crowd threw another joint onto the stage, and
Snoop just picked it up, said "THANKS" and put it behind his ear....He lit
it up soon after, and then everyone was throwing weed at him....
Then back to some more tracks from the Doggystle album....He did Lodi Dodi,
Pump Pump (he got an awesome reaction to this one), Ain't no fun...then he
asked the audience...."Yo, what do you niggas like to drink in
Melbourne????" Everyone was yellin' out Gin & Juice...but Snoop was makin'
fun of the crowd..."What did ya say? Apple Juice? Tomato Juice? Prune
Juice?" Then Bad Azz said..."No Snoop, they're sayin' Gin &Juice"....that
was the next track....
During the song "Snoop's Upside ya head", he didn't change the part where
he says "I'M STILL DOGGYSTYLIN' ON DEATH ROW". Basically, Snoop was giving
much respect to DEATH ROW for the whole show....he even yelled out SUGE
KNIGHT's name during one of the No Limit tracks....
During the last song, Snoop was givin' shout out's to all his homies...Daz,
Kurupt, Nate Dogg, Warren G, the Lady of Rage, THE OUTLAWZ....
Then he started sayin' "TUPAC REST IN PEACE", and Bad Azz and Techniec
would yell out "ROCK THAT SHIT!!!!"...then Snoop said, "PEACE TO SUGE
KNIGHT AND DEATH ROW"...and the niggas yelled out "ROCK THAT SHIT"....he
said a few other things...and then towards the end he said "PEACE TO BAD
BOY RECORDS???? (he asked it as a question)" and Bad Azz and Techiec yelled
out "NAH NIGGA, FUCK THAT SHIT!!!!" You should've seen the whole place
yell shit like THUG LIFE, TUPAC, WESTSIDE!!!!
When lookin' at the show itself, and not the fact that Snoop jumped ship to
No Limit, he really did rock the mother fuckin' house that night....His
Death Row tracks got a much bigger reaction than his No Limit
tracks....During one point in the show when Snoop was speakin' to the
audience, someone yelled out "DEATH ROW FOREVER". Snoop just laughed....but
he didn't dis the nigga....he just laughed and nodded his head as if he was
sayin' "HELL YEAH!" So I guess you can say Snoop set it off in
Melbourne....'cause that's what he did....
At the concert, I'd say more people were wearing Tupac T-shirts than Snoop
shirts....it was amazing.
One thing I noticed after the show was some punk ass promoters were hanging
outside the arena giving out flyers to people who were leaving...these
fliers were for the "BAD BOY WORLD TOUR" which was happening in 1999. One
of my homies and his crew were so fuckin' annoyed at this shit that they
went and kicked they're asses....
I thought Snoop's show was a lot better than I expected it to
be....especially since those fuckin' No Limit bitches didn't come out with
him....But on the real, Snoop set Melbourne alight...I'd give him a four
outta five for the performance....Most of the show was DEATH ROW ANYWAY, he
performed only (about) 5 tracks from No Limit...the rest were from THE
ROW!!!! And what made the show such a success was that Snoop gave much
respect to Pac and gave no respect to No Limit, 'cause the crowd didn't
come for that shit!!!!
