Club Diner, Black Horse Pike (Rt. 168) Bellmawr. This place looks like an abandoned carnival ride from the outside. This led me to believe it would be cool. Silly me. About a minute down the road from the Phily and also open 24 hours, it is the exact opposite of everything that makes the Phily great. The place is so quiet. There is partial juke, but I question whether it's in working order because the place was totally silent inside. They don't have booths big enough for six people. They don't serve french onion soup. The service is slow, and the wait-staff seems really bored and borderline suicidal. The milkshakes were good, and the cheese-fries were good, and I know people who like going there. So, feel free to make the decision for yourself. I kind of feel bad for the place, trying to survive in the shadow of the Phily.
Colonial Diner, North Broad Street, Woodbury. This is a pretty good diner if you avoid the onion soup. Instead, try the zucchini fries. They're excellent. The wait-staff is courteous. Coffee is good, they're open 24 hours, and they have juke. All in all, pretty good.
Courthouse Diner, Stone Harbor Blvd. Cape May. More of a restaurant than diner setting, but they serve traditional diner fare with some extras such as tater tots. The onion soup was pretty good, and the service was prompt, but the atmosphere was not conducive to the traditional philosophical diner discussions young people so often have.
Crystal Diner, Route 37 West, Toms River. They have shiny things by the windows and etched mirrors. This is an aesthetically pleasing diner. The bread in the onion soup is nice and crunchy. The zucchini fries are scrumdidlyumpcious. Come midnight, the place comes alive. In my opinion, a pretty good diner.
