Cake: a band that really can't be put into any sort of label or group. You gotta respect that. I, like most of you, first heard Cake on the radio by a song named Rock and Roll Lifestyle. which I thought was hilarious. But I really fell in love with the band when I heard their version of I Will Survive. Everytime I hear it I want to jump up and dance (much to the annoyance of a lot of my friends). Anyway this song prompted me to listen to the entire Fasion Nugget cd which I love. Do you want to see some Cake Lyrics? Click here!

Some sad news about Cake:

As you guys have probably heard Greg Brown decided to leave the band.
Here is an article from the January 28th edition of the Sacramento Bee about it.

Cake Guitarist Leaves Band

Greg Brown, Cake's founding guitarist and writer of its hit single, "The Distance," has left the band, just as the Sacramento group was getting ready to record its third album. The Sacramento Bee reports that no official reason was given for his departure, but it looks as though conflict between Brown and singer John McCrea has caused the break. "It's our private world," McCrea said, "There's no screaming match, there's no big fight, there's no emotional freak-out. It's all very calm. It's really not a very exciting thing. But I think it's a shame, because Greg was a really great guitar player. I think we complemented each other well."

Manager Bonnie Simpson told the paper that it wasn't a musical decision. This isn't the first time Brown has left the band. In 1995, citing his relationship with McCrea, the guitarist walked, taking bassist Victor Damiani and drummer Todd Roper with him. Two weeks later, they were back together, but Damiani left the band again last spring. A source tells the Bee that Brown refused to enter the studio unless Damiani was part of the project. Regardless, it looks as though there will be another album from Cake. "I just don't feel like stopping," says McCrea.

Cake's sophomore album, Fashion Nugget, went platinum, buoyed by the heavy airplay of "The Distance." Nugget sold ten times as many copies as the band's first album, Motorcade of Generosity.
