I spent a lot of time today trying to figure out how to do this. Should I just make notes through out the day? Should I just sit down in the evening and type? Who is my audience, me or someone out there? I couldn’t decide, so I’m going to take it a day at time. Maybe I’ll talk to all of ya’ll out there. Maybe I’ll berate myself for being a goober. You’ll know when you log on and read.

Who am I? What makes me think that you’ll want to hear what I say?

Let’s answer the second question first. I hope that the work I’ve put into losing 30 pounds and the work I still need to put into losing another 40 will help you. Maybe you’ll see yourself in some of my problems and do a better job of solving your own problems. Or maybe you’ll just read what I write and fall out of your chair laughing at my idiocy. I don’t know.

Now, back to the first question. I teach adult education classes 3 days a week. The other two days I substitute at the middle school. I’m certified to teach history, government, and geography in grades 7 through 12. In January I’ll be starting graduate school. I’ll be working on an MA in Special Education - modified (aka resource classes).

Physically: I started walking in January of this year. I weighed right at 214 pounds on a 5’7” frame. Walking led to working on an elliptical walker and weight machines. Then running the up and down the steps at the football stadium. Then just running in my neighborhood when the football team came back for practice. Now, I run at least two days a week; I run or walk a third day. I take an aerobics class and a yoga class. I’m down to 180. I’m down from size 18/20 to about a 14. Clothing sizes are so arbitrary. What does wearing a 14 mean? It mean’s I can go in a store and try on the size 14 pants and the same size shirt. Maybe both pieces will fit, maybe both will be too small/big, or maybe one piece will fit and the other won’t. The other day I bought 13/14 pants (and they were a little too big), but the X-Large shirt was like a second skin. ‘Splain that one.

I’ve the exercise habit down. Now I have to get the eating habits straightened out. Like today, I had tuna and crackers for breakfast. It’s not the weirdest breakfast I’ve ever had. I love cold pizza and if I have it in the fridge; I eat it. I have terrible sweet tooth. So if candy, cookies, brownies (getting the picture?) are in the house, I have to have one. ‘One’ being the key word.

Are you starting to get confused? In the days and weeks to come you’re probably going to learn more about me than you wanted. But I guess that’s part of the experiment.
