Fun with phones!

I just got a new picture phone - you know what that means.....an obligatory new section of my site! Here are some of my favorite shots. :o) (Please note that I've digitally enhanced most of the pictures - in case you were thinking I have some sort of magical perfect picture-taking phone - but have NOT airbrushed them)

Here's the first picture I took - Rip was the only one around! (By the way, in case you were wondering, yes, he is indeed an 80-pound poodle.)

Jennifer (my best friend since 1993) smelling a rose in front of my parents' house. (For some reason, we thought it was pretty funny at the time, so that's why she's laughing.)

After the rose-smelling, we set out to visit her cousins' house. Needless to say, we were being pretty silly and hyper (as usual). Here I am pretending I don't know I'm taking my own picture! (hee hee)

When we got to their house, even more silliness ensued... First she put a stool over her head...

...then she attacked one of her cousins.

This was taken just about when she figured out I was kneeling next to her taking pictures!

Here's my grandpa at Thanksgiving 2003, a few days before the cousin outing. You may notice Rip in his usual spot by my side... :o)

My grandma at Thanksgiving with a new friend! ;o)

I helped my mom decorate the lounge of my parents' church for Christmas - here she is posing by the tree!

And here is the winter wonderland she created on top of the piano. :o)

This bizarre picture pertains to one of the favorite inside jokes of Jennifer and I... It's a long story, but here goes... We think of a lot of funny hypothetical scenarios in the course of our normal conversations, and the more we joke about them, the more elaborate they get. For example, we were once theorizing about what would happen if somebody stole a prized photo from Paul McCartney's house. (Though we like Paul McCartney, for some reason, we find it hilarious to make fun of him.) It actually did happen back in the 1960s - that's what the Beatles song "She Came in Through the Bathroom Window" is about. In that instance, the lady held the photo (of his dad in case you were wondering) for 'ransom,' and returned it in exchange for an autograph. Anyway, Jennifer and I were thinking about what might occur if this happened again, and decided the person would hold it 'ransom' in exchange for Paul taking them out to dinner. Continuing with this line of reasoning, they would probably try to eat as slowly as possible, right? Well the above picture is my impression of Paul's face (complete with lip-pursing) when the person declares, "I'm going to eat my rice one grain at a tiiiiime!"
[By the way, in case you were wondering about the after-effects of upper jaw surgery, this is a very good illustration. My nose and areas of my face on either side are still pretty swollen seven months afterwards, though the lack of pain certainly makes up for it!]

Here's Rip hanging out with me as usual, this time on my parents' new screened porch.

Jennifer and I went to see a unique rendition of Romeo and Juliet - here she is goofing around during intermission.

The view through the fence in my parents' back yard - if you look closely at the center of the picture, you can see their neighbors' big gray pigs having dinner!

As you may have guessed by now, when I'm visiting my parents' house, Rip usually cuddles up with me at night. :o) He lays perfectly still until morning - though he sometimes snores, I don't mind because it sounds adorable!

Here I am in a friend's apartment during a movie marathon - no wonder I look so tired yet so happy!

My dad took this one the very same day the star was installed on the Hollywood Walk of Fame!

My phone has "fun frames" - here's my mom on the cover of Vogue.

The Dickens Christmas Village, near my parents' house.

My mom and grandma (her mother-in-law) at the village!

Here's my mom enjoying live guitar music.

My grandma and I standing in a real snowfall, thanks to Ye Olde Snow Machine at the Dickens Village!

I finally caught Sparky unaware enough to photograph him!

Here is my great great great (etc etc) grandpa, John C. Starkweather. He was a Brigadier General in the Civil War, and I found this illustration of him, framed it, and gave it to my mom for her birthday!

It's been talked about, but rarely seen and never photographed - the floor of the passenger side of Jennifer's car! By the way, yes, those are my feet, and yes, on this day, as you can see, the trash was piled as high as the bottom of the dashboard, and consequently, my knees were at chest-level. (Lol)

Everyone should have a dog who thinks it's their job to cuddle up to and stare at you.  :o)

Ok, I know this is a weird and possibly gross picture to take, but I can't help it - I think scars are really cool. This is the main incision from my second jaw operation, with the stitches still in! Isn't it neato?!?!

While recuperating from my operation, I helped Brad assemble the wheels of a bike he's building. It was really cool learning how to do it (I love doing that kind of stuff)! Anyhoo, we had to do each wheel differently, so we began by putting the spokes in the front rim, but it just didn't look right... so we redid it... but it still wasn't right (you can see one of the attempts above). So we decided to do the back wheel and see how that turned out. When we were done, it looked perfect. We went back to the front wheel and redid it again... and it still wasn't right! So while I played around with it for like twenty minutes, he went and called the guy who had sold him the materials, and found out he had sent the wrong spokes and screws for the front one! Oops...  ;o)

Here is the finished product a few weeks later!

I took this while walking near campus - I just thought it looked really cool, and yes, the object in mid-air is a bird.

My parents being silly at the Olive Garden.  :o)

My aunt, uncle, and two of my cousins visited my parents recently and we all went out to a snooty restaurant. Afterwards we walked around, and there were actually all these outdoor-loungy rooms - crazy!

My old friend Christina from undergrad wanted me to send her a recent picture of me, so I sent this one of me being a tard (as usual)  ;o)

Here are my two grandmas around Christmas 2003.

My mom recently got a new car... the first time she had me get in to check it out, I noticed there was a towel on the middle armrest. When I asked her why it was there, she replied she didn't want the cloth to get wrecked from people's elbows. In case you were wondering, "Buddy Check 12" is a well-known local news station's campaign to get ladies to do breast self-exams on the 12th of each month. Lovely car accessory, isn't it?
