MY DAVID JONES
TRIBUTE

BORN: DECEMBER 30, 1945
BIRTHPLACE: MANCHESTER, ENGLAND
DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAVY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Davy Jones...The name alone is synonymous with hoardes of screaming women,
fans so completely enamoured that one girl even tried to mail herself to to her hero. A running joke among the other Monkees is that during the band's summer 1967 tour, with Jimi Hendrix opening, Jimi would break into his electric guitar riffs and the audience would start to yell, "DAAAAVY!! WE WANT DAVY!!!" Ultimately drowning out the ear shattering performance of the late Hendrix.
Davy's popularity among fans has been immortalized in song. The band Sorethumb, in 1997 released a song titled, "I Wanna be Your Davy Jones," a comment on the adoration and devotion women have to the british band member.
But there is much more to David than Teen Idol.

BACKGROUND
David Thomas Jones grew up in Manchester England, the only son of Harry and Doris Jones. From a young age, Davy wanted to be a horse jockey.
But the acting bug took hold, and Davy, a natural talent, began his acting career, putting his dreams of being a jockey on hold.
Davy landed the part of the Artful Dodger in the 1964 stage production of "Oliver, and was nominated for a tony award for his portrayal.
A tour with the muscial "pickwick" brought David to Los Angeles,
and it wan't long before he released his first album. He was on his way to becoming a teen idol even before the Monkees came along.

Micky Dolenz, Peter Tork, Michael Nesmith and David Jones in 1967.

After the Monkees went their seperate ways, in 1970, David continued with his solo career. He made the most memerable cameo in tv history on The Brady Bunch,(recently voted BEST EVER cameo on Nick at nite) released a new solo album, and made guest appearances on many tv shows, before teaming up again in the mid-seventies with Micky Dolenz and former Monkees songwriters Tommy Boyce and Bobby Hart. They billed themselves as "Dolenz, Jones, Boyce & Hart-The guys who wrote 'em, and the guys who sang'em." DJB&H split up in 1978, and Davy went back to England to work again with Micky in Harry Neilsson's musical, "The Point."
The eighties found Davy working with a band named Toast and touring Japan before MONKEEMANIA PART II struck the United States in 1986. Davy reteamed with Micky and Peter (Mike was unavailable) and toured the US.
Davy wrote about his experiences as a Monkee in his 1987 autobiography, "They Made A Monkee Out Of Me."
Davy went back to the stage and performed once again in Oliver (this time as Fagin) and had a run in "Grease," playing Vince Fontaine, a role he alternated with Micky.
David and the rest of the Monkees (Including Mike Nesmith) teamed up again in 1995 to record JUSTUS, and for the Monkees Thirtieth Anniversary Tour.In 1998, and in 1999, Davy toured the states along with former heart throbs Bobby Sherman (Here come the Brides) and Peter Noone (Herman's hermits)in the Teen Idols Tour. In 2000, Davy has scheduled a number of tours around the coutry. Keep checking your local newspaper to find out if Davy "may be comin to your town."
