My ‘encounter’ with Bill Paxton
Having been a Bill Paxton fan for four years now and currently have seen 24 of his films (you know that some are difficult to track down??), I was lucky enough to see the man in person.
This is not to brag or anything, I just thought that fellow fans may like to hear my experience.
On the 6th September 1995, I decided to go to the Apollo 13 premiere with my sister (who is also a huge Bill fan). Now, I didn’t actually pay for tickets and get to see the film, I was going to be in the crowd.
The premiere was taking place at the Empire cinema, in Leicester Square, London, England. I didn’t know if Bill was going to be there for certain, but to tell you I was over the moon (no pun intended) to find out Bill would actually be there is an understatement.
So I waited for 8 hours, right in front of the entrance to the cinema, and was at the front of the crowd and there was no way I was moving, believe me!
The wait was long, but oh so worth it…..watching as limos pull up and wondering who the star will be to step out is such a buzz!! I watched as Warwick Davis (‘Willow’ from uh,Willow), the genius Brian Grazer and Todd Hallowell (producers of Apollo 13) walked in, as well as the master Ron Howard, who was ever so nice as some inane people started yelling “Richie” – yeah, like he hasn’t directed some of the finest films or anything in his own right!! I also was thrilled to see Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson. They were kind enough to walk up the crowd so more people could take pictures, for the unlucky ones who weren’t in front of the entrance. Anyhow, a car pulls up and who should step out???BILL PAXTON!! Words cannot describe.. I shouted Bills' name (I swear my sister and I recognised him first) and he turned to look at us. Wow! He then talked to the news crews outside the entrance and posed for photos (he was there with who I assume was his wife) and then turned to wave to the crowds. Unbelievable!
I hope this was interesting to read, and if you ever get the chance to be in the crowd at a premiere, I sincerely reckon that you should go, to see my favourite actor in the flesh was just amazing.
!!Please do not use the above Bill photograph without my permission. Thankyou!!!
