That night they all went to Kinkeads, a local seafood restaurant, for some good food and spirits.

"So do they eat too? Or do they just stand there observing?" Caitlin asked referring to her Secret Service detail. Being followed every where she went, for a good reason, was still pretty new to her.

"Um, they pretty much just stand there." Sam said."Ok"

"Tell me Caitlin," Toby began "How exactly did you, the daughter of the most well-known Democratic figure, end up spending three years working for Republicans?"

"I told you during the interview. I wanted to work for a New Hampshire senator. That just started the ball rolling."

"So how does our White House compare to theirs?" Sam asked. Caitlin smiled. "Do you really want to know?""Probably not." Josh answered.

"But three years..." Toby continued.

"Toby, despite what you may believe, Republicans are not a bunch of ogres." She said laughing.

"They're not?" Josh and Sam said at the same time.

"You're not a closet Republican are you?" CJ asked.

"And have my father disown me? No, truth is, if my father wasn't President then I probably wouldn't be a registered Democrat, either. I'd be an independent."

The people at the table just stared at her as if she were speaking Greek.

"A fence sitter?" Josh asked.

"Why does everyone say that? It takes a strong person to go against the grain and not just jump on the bandwagon. I'm not wishy washy on issues. I have solid beliefs, they just happen to come from both parties. Besides sometimes I get so sick of people acting like they are Democrats or Republicans before they are American."

"What does that mean?" Toby asked.

How many times have you disagreed with something just because it was presented by a Republican and NOT because of what the idea actually was?"

"Not all of us..." Sam began.

"I know that, people from both parties do it, but it's also not everyone from either party."

"So how's apartment hunting?" Donna asked wanting to get her friend off the hotseat.

"Don't ask." Caitlin said, though she was grateful for the change in subject.

"I can't seem to find anything I like, or that my father will approve of. Maybe I should just give up and stay at the White House."

"Now don't do anything drastic." Josh said.

"You know there are some pretty nice, secure places in my neighborhood. How about during lunch tomorrow we go take a look at a couple." Sam offered.

"You don't mind?" CAitlin asked.

"No, it'll be fun. Besides it'll give you a chance to tell me all about Oxford. Your family has been monopolizing all of your time since you got back. I'll even buy lunch." he replied smiling.

"Well in that case, how can I refuse." Caitlin answered, getting excited about the prospect of spending time alone with Sam. 'Stop that!' she reprimanded herself. But it didn't help. She found herself counting the hours until tomorrow.
