Like everybody, there are quite a few things in this world which just annoy the hell out of me. I try not to voice these opinions for various reasons. I never want to hurt anyone's feelings, I appear bitter when I do, etc. Unfortunately, unless I voice my frustrations, they don't go away. The solution I've come up with, is this Rant & Roar section of my website. Every so often, I plan to vent my frustration, go on a rant and just plain roar about a certain topic that annoys me. I mean absolutely no offense to anyone in particular. This section is not an excuse for me to attack anyone. It's just me letting off some steam.

I hate campus politics with the white hot intensity of a thousand burning suns. While writing an article for the Concordian (One of Concordia University's campus newspapers), I had to immerse myself in campus politics and write a story on the Concordia Student Union (CSU) and this whole accreditation thing going on. *sigh* Let me explain. The CSU, which represents Arts and Science students at Concordia, wants to legally represent ALL students at Concordia. To do this, they need 25% of all undergraduates to vote "yes" for accreditation. The Commerce and Administration Student Association (CASA) and the Engineering and Computer Science Association (ECA) are both against accreditation because they feel that the CSU does not effectively represent all the students at Concordia.
Yup. THIS is the issue that our representatives are fighting over. This whole accreditation thing makes virtually no difference in the lives of students and to have our so-called representatives fighting and bickering over it just shows how truly petty they are. Campus politics is nothing more than a bunch of university undergrads who like to whine and act self-important while sitting in an office and that pisses me off. There are REAL issues out there. Who doesn't the CSU or CASA or ECA actually try to DO something that would effect STUDENTS. Why not try to petition for better ways of helping students who can't pay their tuition? Why not petition for better services for the handicapped? Even if they wanted to concentrate on much smaller things, why not try to stop the escalators in the Hall building from breaking down every 3 hours? Why not try fixing the phones on the 6th floor? Why not try putting one damn vending machine that works in the Bryan building!
The Student Unions seems more concerned with acquiring power than they do with representing students. And, what really gets me, is that they can't really acquire that much power to begin with. I mean, they're a STUDENT organization. What's the most power they can really grab? What, do they get free photocopies from the library? I mean come on! You're out of University in a few years anyway! It's time they stopped this whole "accreditation" crap and started working on issues people actually CARE about. Most people at Concordia don't even know what accreditation means, let alone how it will affect their lives.
