Rant & Roar

"Now I don't want to get off on a rant here, but...." -Dennis Miller

Here is my Rant and Roar page. My rants vary in length depending on how I feel and how much I have to say about each issue. Once again, I'd like to point out that I am not trying to offend anyone in particular. This is just me blowing off some steam.

Topic: People who care that the Millennium really starts in 2001

First off, YES, the Millennium does start in 2001. People who don't know that aren't very familiar with history. There was no year 0. It went from the year 1 BC to 1 AD.

2000 years plus the year 1 AD equals 2001 AD.

Now that we cleared that up, an important question is raised: WHO CARES??!!! I'm sick to death of hearing people correcting others on the "true" date of the millennium. These are the same people who think that the rest of the world is making large fools of themselves for celebrating the year 2000 and who are gonna throw a big party on December 31, 2000 instead. If they want to get really technical (and they clearly do), the coming millennium is supposed to be exactly 2000 years after Jesus's birth, but Jesus was actually born in something like 7 BC. So, TECHNICALLY, the millennium was in 1993. I guess that means that these mathematically anal people have to wait until 2093 to throw a big party! The date we use is arbitrary. We use it because we're not about to change the dates of all written history because of a calculation error. It doesn't matter that 2001 is exactly 2000 years after the year 1 AD. Aside from the first 2000 years of existence, EVERY year is exactly 2000 years after some other year. Hey, we're now exactly 2000 years after the year 2 BC! The POINT is that it's the end of the 1900s. Hell, the millennium is just an excuse for us to get together, get piss drunk and have a good time!

Instead of nit-picking about the exact year of the millennium, just relax and enjoy the party! As far as I'M concerned, the millennium starts in 2000 and come New Years, I'm gonna party like it's 1999!

I feel much better now that I've vented.
