Those mysterious missing movies

McNellys Rangers I am always trying to gather information for this page. Why are movies with Eric Roberts in the credits missing from the film list that is (was?) at his official web site??? When will they be available on video? Next month? Next year? Or maybe never!?

Apparently King's Guard has not found a distributor yet so has not been released. UPDATE! King's Guard will be released on video 28 August 2001. Back when the movie was being made, I exchanged email with the director (This is funny -- he thought I was somebody else! I got his address and sent him an email asking a few questions. I was very surprised to get email back from him much more in depth and personal than I expected. When I emailed him back he told me that he had mistaken me for someone else that he knows also named "Robin.") So I have his email address but I really hate to email him and ask him what is going to happen with King's Guard. It is a costume epic type movie which I am totally crazy about so I was really looking forward to it. I bought the soundtrack CD but it would have been better if I could have seen the movie first.

In a 1997 interview Eric said that he would be starring as the title character in his next film, Porkchop. The same movie was mentioned in a magazine article as Porkchop the Pimp. But the movie was never made. Now, three years later, an article in the Los Angeles Times finally clears up the mystery. In 1996, Rod Lurie, director of The Contender was preparing to leave his career as a film reviewer to become a film director. The movie that he planned to made was Porkchop, starring Eric Roberts. First films tend to take a while to get off the ground and, while this one was slowly gearing up, Eric was offered a better ($$) role in the made-for-TV movie, In Cold Blood. So Porkchop was never filmed.

The following movies (as well as several more recent movies) have Eric Roberts in the credits but DO NOT appear on the filmography at Eric's official web site:

When a movie is filmed using one title and is then released under another title, it can be kind of confusing.

Here are seven movies that have had their names changed:

One movie was mentioned in Variety magazine that I haven't been able to find anywhere else -- Artists Die Best in Black. There is a movie called Best in Black which does not star Eric. So whatever happened to Artists Die Best in Black??? Update! Jona discovered that not enough money has been raised to film Artists Die Best in Black. They are apparently trying to raise $2,600,000.

There was another movie that Eric Roberts mentioned in a 1986 interview that seems to have disappeared completely. Whatever happened to Ice Castles?
