It's 3:30 on a lazy Sunday afternoon. Benny and Ray are relaxing in the living room of the Vecchio home. For once they are the only two occupants of the room.
Rosa, Maria and Frannie are in the kitchen, preparing Sunday dinner. The children are out playing with the other neighborhood kids, involved in a game of hide and go seek that is spread over the lawns of four homes. Tony is upstairs, enjoying his post-church nap.
Benny is lying on the sofa, in theory reading a book, but in actuality he is spending most of his time watching Ray; who is sitting on the floor next to the sofa, reading the Sunday paper.
Faint sounds from the radio, tuned into the blues station that Rosa likes, drift in from the kitchen. A rich, soulful female voice captures both men's attention.
"At last my love has come along. My lonely days over and life is like a song ..."
Ray looks up from his newspaper and meets Benny's eyes, and the two men exchange a look. A look of understanding, and happiness, and love.
Quickly checking the doorway to be sure no one is passing by, Ray leans in for a kiss.
